Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Abrosimova.
Hi Tamara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always had a necessity to be on stage or on television. I wanted to know what it was like to be in someone else’s shoes, and experience a different reality. My mom was the first one who got me interested in the theatre and a few years later I already participated in school plays. After I moved to the United States, I began to study the business of acting, because after all, it is show business. Just like any other business required money starting my career as an actor wasn’t cheap, but it was the most rewarding.
My agent, Christopher Newton, got me my first gig on a documentary series “Snapped: Killer Couples” in 2019 where I portrayed a young mother who was in an abusive relationship with her husband. Three years later, I have supporting friends and family, three agents who book me roles that show my “brand.” Usually, I get cast as villains, escorts, and Russian spies. At the beginning of 2021, I booked my first big commercial in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and I just wrapped my first feature film in Charleston, South Carolina.
When I’m not filming or self-taping, I do modeling, go on adventures across the country, travel to abandoned and paranormal places, and help other actors on how to get started in the film industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think it ever is a smooth road, even if you’re born into it. It was definitely not an easy journey for me. The first obstacle was quitting my part-time job. I worked at the auto shop in the very small hick town and I remember burning my uniform after I got home. I promised myself that it was the last 9 to 5 job, I would ever have.
I moved to Charleston after I was contacted by a local casting director who offered me to be a full-time stand-in on “The Righteous Gemstones.” I thought I was in heaven. Obviously, it wasn’t the dream job, but I didn’t take it for granted and enjoyed each moment of it. I got to meet a lot of amazing actors and gained few friends along the road. The second obstacle was losing my home in a hurricane that was back in 2019, so I moved to my friend’s parent’s house. I thought I lived in a cult because they were full-blown Christians and I was being controlled almost every minute. I couldn’t do it, so I crashed on my friend’s couches.
At the beginning of the pandemic, I almost became homeless, but I booked my first commercial, and that gig literally saved my butt. Nowadays, I operate my own business, live with my cat, Draco, and have the luxury to be financially free and do whatever I want.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor, who helps other actors on how to get started in the film industry. I am a model, who loves to collaborate with other photographers. I am a photographer, who travels across the country and checks out paranormal places. I am an entrepreneur.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Savannah because there’s always something going on here, especially with the filming. Currently, they’re filming “The Menu” with Anya-Taylor Joy and Ralph Fiennes. I’m hoping to come across at least one of them downtown.
I also enjoy it, because there are so many creative artists since Savannah College of Art & Design is here.
In addition, it reminds me a lot of my hometown in Ukraine.
