Today we’d like to introduce you to Walker Dalton.
Hi Walker, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca, and started off with a career in photography, producing photo shoots for Disney shows like Power Rangers and High School Musical. I took a position at NBC to work on more digitally focused projects which landed me producing photography for the then web series Jay Leno’s Garage. Eventually, I became regular and was soon producing and sourcing cars to be featured.
The web series quickly grew to we very popular Youtube series and primetime TV show, garnering multiple Emmy nominations. After 10 years with Jay Leno’s Garage, I was looking to expand my creative aspirations and took a job with The Savannah College of Art and Design, taking me all the way to Savannah, Georgia in 2018. There I get to explore art and fashion through art films and documentaries that highlight the University’s disciplines.
This allowed me to take a different role in car culture as an enthusiast, offering my decade of experience and connections to events like the Hilton Head Concours and Savannah’s early 20th-century racing history. I’m also the caretaker of a 1971 Volvo which has become part of my social identity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say it’s never a smooth road but that’s part of the fun, moving to Savannah was a huge leap of faith. I’d never even visited the town but just felt like it was the right thing to do. Took some time to adapt to local culture but ultimately is a great experience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m best known for producing car content but a close second was my automotive photography. Since I was working around all these amazing cars, I felt it was a good chance to use my photography skills. I enjoy the creative process and for me what makes me stand out is that I never take myself too seriously. It’s all about having a good time at the moment and hopefully regardless if it’s an art film, car segment, or photograph, that it turns out as good as the experience of making it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That I have deep love for art, lot of different styles, whether it’s painting, photography, or sculpture. Some of my favorite artist’s art are Jerry Uelsmann, Rene Magritte, Jan Van Eyck, and Richard Avedon.
