Life & Work with Sarah Mundy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Mundy.

Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was thirty-three and decided to quit corporate America and follow in my mother’s footsteps and become a cosmetologist. I had three kids and was going through a divorce. My mother passed away while I was in school, and almost a year after her passing, I graduated.

I moved to Atlanta shortly after and developed a strong following of clients. I opened my salon and started living my dream of being my boss. Sadly, my father passed in 2020 from Covid. I felt my heart pulling me back to Savannah (my home) to be closer to family and old friends.

So, here I am today. I found a beautiful salon in the heart of Richmond Hill to call home. And I can say ‘because of the support of my family and friends, I can say my clientele has never been better. Life is great! My kids are now 17, 15, and 12. I have four giant Great Danes and a loving and a supportive husband!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! Going back to school, being thirty-three, having three kids, working, and watching my mother pass away while in school was such a struggle.

Moving to a brand new city right after graduating was no easy task either. I was a fish out of water in a new city.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a Master’s in Cosmetology, and I specialize in color! I mostly love doing vivid and fantasy colors, but I also love balayage. I am most proud of the look on my client’s faces when they see their hair and the transformation.

What sets me apart from others is the amount of laughter you can expect when you’re in my chair. I’m a pretty hilarious chic, if I may say so myself. I always find ways to connect with my clients on some level. And most of the time, we end up laughing about those connections. Life is funny! Why not get your hair done and have some belly laughs at the same time!?

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
My greatest risk was going back to school to follow my dreams at the age of thirty-three. I didn’t know how I would pay for it, or how I would still work, or how I could be a mom to three kids and be present for them while working and going to school. But I did it!
