Check Out Michael Lerzo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lerzo.

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Michael Lerzo. I grew up in Cobb County where my parents still live. I attended Georgia College in Milledgeville and have stayed in Milledgeville to teach high school Spanish at Georgia Military College Prep School. I also coach baseball, teach a drone class to high school students, and volunteer with the local youth group. I originally got into photography about 2 years ago, when I bought my first serious drone.

The photography capabilities on drones today are truly incredible and I began to learn the basics of photography while flying that drone. There have been big leaps in drone technology recently that have made it more affordable to fly with intuitive technology. It is crazy to think that an object that fits in your hand can fly up to 40 miles per hour, record a 4K video, create 3D models of buildings, and hover steadily enough to capture long-exposure photos. I love being able to capture a new perspective of the world through drones – especially in all of the beautiful places that Georgia has to offer.

It started as a hobby, but I soon realized that there was a real market for aerial photos and videos. Thus, my company, Lerzo Aerial Productions was created in September of 2019. I eventually branched out into using a camera and venturing into the real estate photography market. I really enjoy taking aerial photos of landscapes as well as small towns and big cities around the southeast – especially in Georgia.

I currently use the Mavic 2 Pro (a drone made by DJI) to take most of my aerial photos and videos.
My favorite thing about photography is the places that it takes me to new places and allows me to create lasting memories. My amazing wife, Brittney also comes along for many of my adventures so it is nice to share those amazing views with someone else.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting any business has difficulties. Obviously, there are some start-up costs that can be difficult to make back and it took about a year or so to make a profit. However, the hardest part of my journey so far has been the pandemic. In 2020, I was just starting to get a lot of business and interest and all of a sudden everything shut down.

I feel like that really hurt the momentum that I was starting to pick up. On the bright side, things picked up again this past summer and I have been very blessed with how things are currently running.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I really enjoy giving others a perspective that they haven’t seen before. My company’s slogan is “Giving your World a New Perspective” and I feel that aerial photos and video really help to accomplish that. There are a lot of truly beautiful places in Georgia and I love being able to share those views with people.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t know if luck is the right word for my journey so far. I believe that the Lord has really blessed my business and has given me any success that I’ve had so far.
