Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Kisgen and Marianne Williams.
Hi Stephanie and Marianne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We are two friends that enjoy local products, handmade goods, and art projects. We came together and started creating a gift for a friend; a necklace. We were inspired by being out on the local coastal waters and from seeing and experiencing the love of our small town. We wanted to create a keepsake that would always remind her of their family’s time in Southeast Georgia.
We are surrounded by history, nature, friends, and our families. We enjoy stirring up emotion within people as they shop our items that have grown from our local town collection. Our oyster shell and coastal town lines now reach up and down the coast of Georgia and into South Carolina.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We definitely wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road, but we’ve learned and grown along the way together. Our sense of humor definitely helps us get through the ups and downs of owning and running a business. This coupled with raising a family can really be a challenge, we are lucky to have each other to lean on.
Inventory management, social media, e-commerce, purchasing, and outsourcing have all been areas we have learned and adapted when we find an efficient method. We have both picked the brains of our husbands a time or two seeking experienced advice on certain business topics. They have been the most amazing supporters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
True South creates oyster shell ornaments, oyster shell jewelry, and has various collections of coastal town accessories and home decor. We work alongside other local artists to create watercolor maps capturing that “love of place”.
We interview and visit with locals to really make sure that all the iconic places are included. We add a whimsical touch to our designs, yet use the town’s history to tell the story; we think this is a unique take on the traditional map. We hope others appreciate the time and detail that goes into cultivating our unique products. Remember: “The World is Your Oyster”!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
We also do customized oyster shell ornaments, with various designs that are specific to individuals. We add pictures, dates, and even commission new art. We have also worked with businesses to come up with designs for corporate gifts.
Artists are the backbone of our products; if interested in working or collaborating with us contact us with your story. We enjoy working with many different artists and enjoy eclectic styles.
