Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Holliday

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Holliday.

Hi Taylor, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I became an esthetician in 2005. I had just had my daughter and previously spent two years at Georgia Southern not really knowing what I wanted to do. The spa business has been in my family since I was a teenager. My older sister is an esthetician, massage therapist, and campus president of Atlanta School of Massage and institute of esthetics. I always looked up to her. So, when I decided to follow along in the beauty industry I knew I had big shoes to fill, but also knew my journey would be different. Being a new mom, and navigating through this journey had its ups and downs. I have worked in resort spas, medical spas, salons, and tourist area spas. The spa industry is not always easy. There tends to be a lot of competition, a lot of drama, and a lot of people-pleasing.

When I had my second daughter I took some time off. I spent the time with my family, and for a while was not sure if I would stick in the industry. Then I became interested in permanent makeup. That was something that I really wanted to get into, but time and money was not there and it seemed a bit out of reach. The universe finally put me in the right place at the right time and through a series of events that were good and bad, I ended up at a spa in Richmond hill, with a huge support system and on the path of building a substantial clientele in skincare and now permanent makeup. I’m currently offering brow and lip permanent makeup services and will soon be offering eyeliner as well. It took a lot to find my passion. It took a lot of trial and error. Trusting the wrong people, and not believing in myself enough I almost quit, to find a place I really felt I could grow and build myself up the way I knew I could given the opportunity. To think I almost gave up. I’m so so glad I didn’t. I truly believe if you put out into the universe what you want, and let go of the how, it will happen. I am a huge believer in things happen for a reason, and While I had to go through some disappointment and some hard times I believe it all happened to get me on the path I’m on today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not always no. I did a lot of moving around. I trusted people I shouldn’t have. I relied on people to have my best interest at heart who I learned didn’t, and I realized if I wanted something bad enough I had to stop at nothing to get it. We went through having one vehicle, and me having to go into work hours early because my husband went in at that time, we had to carpool, and that was my option. I missed my kids’ events on Saturdays and Sundays and usually if they had something during the day at school, I was not able to make it. Working on commission is not guaranteed you will be paid for being at work 8 hours. Some days I had zero clients, paid a sitter and stayed all day for no money. It did however teach me what I did and didn’t want for my career.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed Esthetician of 16 years. I specialize in skincare, and permanent makeup. I am extremely proud of the clientele I have built In the Richmond Hill area. I love our town and the people in it. I have made friends out of my clients and absolutely love to make someone feel better about themselves. I can do that by enhancing their natural beauty through skincare and permanent makeup. Getting a hug, or tears when someone looks at their transformation is the best feeling, and why I love what I do. I don’t consider it work. The people I work with are like family. It makes me proud that I e gotten this far and have perused something I wasn’t sure was even possible for me.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My sister has been there to teach me and guide me as well as be my biggest cheerleader and motivator. My husband has supported all my dreams and sometimes has opposite schedules and weekends away. He is also my biggest fan and believes I can achieve things that I haven’t even considered yet. Kelly, the owner of Poppy Hill where I work, has become a very close friend and mentor. She has helped push me to follow my dreams and set goals for myself. She has given me so much room to grow and a place to do it that I can call home. I definitely would not be here without her.
