Daily Inspiration: Meet Nikita Desai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Desai.

Hi Nikita, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Life comes with crazy surprises, and it is filled with ups and downs. It’s the downs that help you find your best version of yourself. The challenges you face mold you into the best human being you can possibly be during your lifetime. It also makes the ups a lot more enjoyable.

In 2018 as I was living my best happy married life with the love of my life, I started having a series of health problems arise. I later learned it all stemmed from one main cause called inflammation. I had quickly eaten my way to happiness in the first year of our wedding. This 20lbs felt different to me, but it didn’t phase me because I knew I could lose it. In my head, I knew it was just my happy weight.

Boy was I wrong!

In late 2018, I woke up to what felt like a scary dream. As I sat up in bed, I turned left towards my husband just to notice that I could not hear anything from my left ear. All I could hear is a muffled ringing noise. Trying not to panic, I quickly made myself believe I had swimmer’s ear from a couple of days before when I was at the pool. Even though I knew it felt different. Fast forward to a week later, nothing had changed, and it almost felt worse. At this point, I knew I needed to see an ENT.

The first thing they did was a hearing test and boy was that scary. When they did my right ear, I could hear and repeat almost all the words. However, when they got to my left ear, I literally wanted to cry. I knew in that moment it was not a good sign. I couldn’t help but have all the negative thoughts run through my head. What if this was the end of my career as an optometrist.? What if I couldn’t ever hear my patients on my left side? How will this affect my life long term? As the questions ran through my head, I felt hopeless. I felt this was it. My career is over! As I am starting to look defeated, the audiologist comes into the noise cancelation room to call me out to explain the results to me. She said in the nicest way possible that my current hearing in the left ear is worse than an 80-year-old. My heart sank!

As I am still processing this information she had me wait in the waiting room to be called by the ENT to hear my diagnosis. Anxiously as I waited, I get called back to hear my diagnosis as Sudden Sensory Hearing Loss. I won’t bore you with all the medical jargon, but in short, if I didn’t go in earlier I could’ve become permanently deaf in my left ear.

Now to treat the hearing loss I had to be on a super heavy dose of steroids for 4 weeks. If you have taken any of these in your lifetime, you already know what is coming. With this came more weight gain, tachycardia, sleepless nights, excessive urination. You name it I had it. Thankfully slowly my hearing started coming back. So I guess it worked but at the cost of having other medical issues.

Through all these problems, I learned from Dr. Sachin Patel, my cousin, a functional health practitioner and Dr. Dipa Patel, my sister-in-law, a function health pharmacist that the root cause of my problem was my inflammation.

This helped me go through an amazing metabolic reset program through them and start my wellness journey. My journey of a more holistic and low toxic lifestyle.

In this process of ditching and switching certain toxins from our life and home, my husband and I found the company Young Living. We wanted to find a company that was able to provide us with the one stop shop to all plant based natural products. Young Living has turned out to be exactly that and much more than we could imagine for our wellness journey. It has helped us to ditch and switch so many toxins from our lives and continues to do so till this day.

Young Living has over 600+ products everything from essential oils to skincare, supplements, home care, pet care to many other things.

We loved their products so much that we decided to start spreading the word about them and helping others.

This has led us to be able to help over 180 families around the globe in less than 12 months.

So we ask you to join us as well in your wellness journey with us. We would love to help you ditch and switch some of those toxins in your life and home. Decreasing the toxic load can make a huge difference in your health in the long run. Do not wait till you have a health concern like mine arise to make the change.

This journey does not have to happen overnight but over time. However, I challenge you to start somewhere and you’d be surprise with the change you see in your body and mind both inside and out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I still learn something new everyday and that’s the beauty of it. You don’t have to know it all but you should start somewhere. When you decide to make that change for your health and wellness, everything else will fall into place.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work full time as an optometrist, and I love the patient care and education aspect of it. I am also a lifestyle influencer and a wellness advocate via my Young Living business. I am most proud of never giving up. Things have never come easy for me. I’ve always had to work hard for them. I think my determination to help others, want self-growth, and to have the leisure of working from anywhere with my wellness business definitely drives me every day.

How do you think about luck?
I feel like luck has always been on my side even though it may take me being unsuccessful the first time around. I believe manifesting is something we should all work on because it really works. It helps us to turn our visions into reality. If you can think of it, you can achieve it.
