Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Thompson-Fincher.
Kiara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So I always LOVED doing my makeup. Makeup is my first love. My best friend went to a beauty school and got tired of doing my makeup before we would go out to parties so I started paying attention. I already knew how to do my eyebrows, but as we all that takes the longest to perfect. (It took me 3 years to get them how I wanted.) Although I liked doing my makeup, I never wanted to do other people’s makeup lol. Seemed so stressful. I also was more invested into going into the service (Air force) so couldn’t take as much time to perfect my craft as I wanted. Once life shifted, I was looking for a hustle. You can say around Covid, November time is when I really got motivated and when I really got started with brow tint. A lot of people ask if I took a class, and the answer is no lol. I actually sat and studied YouTube and different brands for months before I got started. I was looking for something to make people feel good and just figured I could catch on to that pretty quickly. I sold lip scrubs before this, but actually wanted to service and meet people at the same time. My mom had already broken generational curses and had her own business, which allowed me to work in one of her suites to get started. No overhead, all my money went to me. I would be so happy working 9am-9pm on my off days doing brow tint because it never felt like work.
Now a year later, I offer brow tint, brow lamination, microshading and also blading, all mink lash services AND offer makeup services. I have good days and I have bad days but I can truly say I’m happy I found my passion and can’t wait to see what’s all in store for me!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m going to start by saying, anything you want bad, will not be easy to get. No, It was not always a smooth road however, I won’t say it was all bad either. I believe I avoided a lot of problems financially in my business due to my mother being a financial advisor. So she really helped, with important decision making as well as get my LLC and EIN for my business. I feel the hard things in a business are the things you can’t avoid, slow weeks, fake disputes, bad energy and etc. Luckily, I haven’t had more than I could count on my hand so that’s good lol. I pray constantly so that helps.
We’ve been impressed with EnhancedbyKi, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is made to make people feel like an Enhanced version of themselves. But to do this, you first have to practice self love. To know you’re beautiful BEFORE the glitz and the glam. I always knew I was beautiful, my parents did and amazing job with that lol, but I always loved how much of a princess I felt with makeup on or even playing dress up. That’s kind of where I get the Enhanced title from the name of my business, gives a Disney princess ring to it. My specialty and love of my life is brows. However, I want people to know me by making them feel good and making them look better. That’s what sets my brand apart, I’m all for baddies becoming badder versions of themselves. That sometimes intimidates women.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people wouldn’t know is that I would like to run a successful cosmetic business that can be sold in Ulta makeup stores. That’s my dream.
