Hi Tameka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have fond memories of cooking family style meals as a child.
What started out as cooking wondrous meals for my children as a way of survival turned into a full-time business that feeds the city. It was the high praises I received regularly from close family and friends that led me to step out of my comfort zone and sell dinners to the masses.
I became widely recognized by TV and radio personality, Ricky Smiley for my infamous chicken and waffle cupcakes. This treat is a vanilla cupcake that’s topped with a crispy waffle, warm flavored syrup, cream cheese topping, and a juicy piece of fried chicken.
I have fed people from all walks of life one meal at a time through my weekly lunch menus, catered events, and private dinners during the holidays.
Peavley’s Catering is a catering company in Georgia formed by Chef Tameka Peavley to offer custom Southern cuisine catering and personalized services to our clients, while based in Georgia, Chef Peavley will travel throughout the states to create your specialized event in the pleasure of your own home or at the venue of your choice.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many cooks know what a sanctuary the kitchen can be. However, there are some instances where this is not always true. The culinary profession has one of the highest rates of mental illness in the country and its workers are particularly prone to depression.
Depression is closely linked to stress, low incomes, exhaustion, and hostile work environments, all of which restaurants have in huge supply. During my transition from full-time employee to full-time entrepreneur, I sought tools from a trained professional on how to manage my mental health in my new assignment.
With these newfound tools, my kitchen became the road I needed to travel for improved mental health.

I am most proud of my ability to provide for my sons and leave a legacy doing what I love.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Safety is of the utmost importance in my line of work.
Doing my best to protect myself and those I serve during the COVID-19 crisis is my highest priority.
