Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Evangelista.
Hi Angie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story started in 2019 when I got diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a struggle for the family to overcome the diagnosis.
The journey was bearable with the love and support of family and friends through the darkest moment of our lives. Every time I lit a candle, it gives me healing in my dark moments. It gives me hope and resembles everyone who has been a part of our journey. Every spark is a symbol of hope and faith that rekindled my soul. I started making candles as gifts given to family and friends as a thank you gift.
Everyone loved it knowing that I use Soy Wax, Fragrance oil infused with essential oils, phthalate-free,preservatives-free, additives-free, and colorant-free. They asked me if I can make more to sell and it all started then. After 3 years, we have opened our Shop.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a very challenging road but rewarding. We experienced rejection from shop owners but this made us who we are right now. We turned rejections into opportunities to better our branding and we have gained more YES than NO.
Building your company is never easy, and we have learned to be positive and take each day at a time with gratitude. We thought 2020 was our year as I completed my treatments and we have planned it all. But March 2020 happened and the world stopped.
Despite this, we find ways to reach our customers by creating our online store. We put all our minds together to put on a consistent marketing plan, and it worked. It never worked right away and every day was a learning experience for us. But, as the saying goes “If there is a will, there is a way”.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Catharsis by candlelight inspired me to build this candle company and we continue to create meaningful gifts. From candles, reed diffusers, room sprays, home, bath, and body products that are handcrafted in Bluffton, South Carolina.
You can handcraft anything but the story behind our product is what sets us apart from others. We have a Giving Back Program and this will be a part of our company. I am so grateful to read comments that our customers are inspired by our story and that gave them fuel to do what they have always wanted to do and to persevere.
We are so proud that our products are Phthalate-free, preservative-free, colorant-free, zinc /lead-free wick,s and use soy wax. We are growing and creating more products for you, your family, your friends, your home, and your community.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Books are my go-to when it comes to business advice, I also listen to my husband who will give me the hard truth of things, I am the dreamer and he is the realist, so that makes our dynamics as business partners better.
Surround yourself with positive people, the go-getter, and whatever path you choose, these people will definitely make an impact on you.
