Today we’d like to introduce you to McKibben Collins.
Hi McKibben, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started doing photography as a hobby.
I’d organized theme photos for my friends to pose in and would just have fun. In high school, I decided to take photography classes and my love for the medium grew. I decided last minute to apply for art schools and now attend Savannah College of Art and Design working towards my bachelor’s degree in photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There was definitely judgment from my family about the choices I’ve made involving my career.
Being raised in my conservative family, everyone was concerned about my ability to have a job after college. Luckily, my mother has always been supportive of my choices.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer who specializes in portraits. The thing I love about the portraits I create is helping individuals see themselves from a different, more positive perspective.
So many people have insecurities about themselves, including me. The looks on their faces when they see the art we’ve created together is the joy that I live for.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The natural beauty of Savannah is what attracted me to it. It’s always so lively and there’s always something happening. The one thing I don’t like is the traffic.
