Community Highlights: Meet Felicia Wilcox of Modern Moon Boutique & Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Wilcox.

Hi Felicia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A few years ago my entire outlook on life changed. In May 2020 I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. Having any type of cancer is scary, but it has always been one of my worst fears. Of course, every bad thought under the sun went through my head. However, it gave me an entirely new outlook on life.

My number one goal was to spend more time with my family. I knew I needed to find a way, but wasn’t quite sure how. At the time, my job was very demanding of my time, but it wasn’t a job I could just walk away from. Not only did I have a demanding job, but so did my spouse. My spouse, Zach, is active duty military and always seems to be away training. So throwing his career in the mix really challenged our family time.

Fast forward to July 2020 we made the big move from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky to Rincon, Georgia. Which of course, we were thrilled about! Georgia is home for us. We really thought things would be much easier. Needless, to say life got crazier. Work for me stayed insane and the Army seemed to need Zach a lot more. We just thought we had it bad at Ft. Campbell.

Here rolls October 2021, I woke up the morning of October 15 and told my husband that I needed to make a change ASAP and that it was now or never. I told him I wanted to open a boutique! Zach’s exact words were, “Let’s do it!!!”. By November 1, 2021, I had my lease signed, applied for all my licenses, and had begun ordering clothes.

In the mix of the excitement, I did not realize just how much work had to be done to my newly leased building. Thankfully, the army granted Zach leave and we immediately got started remodeling. The entire building inside and out received a facelift. As the days rolled by, the store definitely started to come together. I was beyond excited, it felt amazing, I was finally going to get the family time I had been longing for.

Now, while the thought of a boutique and family time sounded good. There was one little thing. I was the new girl in town. I only knew about two people in Rincon. This was a big risk! While others told me I was crazy I knew I had what it took to get my name out.

On opening day, December 16, 2021, I had a packed-out store. That was my confirmation that God was in control and that I was in the right spot. Each month, Modern Moon continues to see record growth. I wholeheartedly am so appreciative of everyone who supports my store.

It feels great to wake up every day and be able to take my kids to school, attend their sporting events, and to be able to come home at a decent time to help with homework and cook dinner. Not only am I blessed with family time, but it has also allowed me to spend time in the community volunteering and giving back!

I can’t wait to see the places Modern Moon goes!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening Modern Moon has been a very smooth road considering how I did not know anyone in Rincon when I opened.

We’ve been impressed with Modern Moon Boutique & Decor, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Modern Moon is an up-and-coming one-stop-shop. Originally, my main focus was woman’s apparel. Now we offer women’s and men’s apparel, home decor, and lots of different specialty trinkets,

Since opening Modern Moon it was laid upon my heart to advocate for people who are special needs. One of my employees is actually special needs and is absolutely amazing. Soon, Modern Moon will have more people who are special needs job training within the store.

It’s truly rewarding to see how excited they get about coming to work. Something so simple that so many people take for granted.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising about me is that I am actually very shy and opening my boutique was way out of my comfort zone. Sorry if I’m awkward sometimes!! Lol.
