Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Steadman.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After trying multiple career paths I realized my love for music was undying. Knowing this, I was on my way to creating my own sound; with influences from many genres and artists, you will hear hints of blues, rock, pop, outlaw country, and more.
Growing up in the small town of Ringgold Georgia I was immersed in the 60s – 70s rock, classic country, and bluesy soul music from my dad. Through any tribulations in my life, I could always lean on music. Coming from a talented family and singing in church during my youth, I was introduced to the piano and drums and often sang with my brother who played the guitar.
Playing things like The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and many other greats this is where I started to write songs. I would write poetry while listening to tunes that my younger brother played in the room next to mine.
As a young adult, just like many, I struggled with my purpose in life. Listening to the typical advice of “you need to find a steady career with decent pay, a wife, and plan for retirement”, I worked a nine to five for several years miserably and eventually was influenced by a friend to join the United States Marine Corps.
Although I loved the Marine Corps and the life that came with it, it wasn’t my purpose in life. Now living in Chattanooga Tennessee, after the Marine Corps and several years of soul searching, I decided to chase my dream and focus on writing, singing, and making music in his own vision.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles along the way have been, self-doubt, the opinions of others, and a test of patience.
There may be times that you feel very confident, but sometimes there are thoughts of if you are doing the whole thing the correct way or not, and you question yourself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I work about 40-50 hours a week at a freight brokerage called Usxpress. I’m a manager over a freight brokering team there. Then I of course play live music all around. Mostly in the genre of Southern Americana, and Darker style of Acoustic music, while most of my music on streaming platforms has a full band type sound.
Then I also am partners with a few others in a Mariner Veteran Based Non-Profit, called Clime and Place. Founded by Marines, Promoting Suicide Awareness, and builds a Community of USMC and FMF Naval Corpsman Vets that fight to cope with the civilian lifestyle.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
In the past, I have owned two clothing companies, and be partners with others in a gym, and a meal prep company.
