Today we’d like to introduce you to Devotha Richard Mushi.
Hi Devotha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My names are Devotha Richard Mushi, a young female 28 years old. I’m the third born out of four, raised with my father and mother. I started my academic journey in the 1990s and completed my BA in Sociology at the University of Dar es Salaam in the year 2017. In my life my dream was to become a medical doctor, despite the fact I could not fulfill my dream, I like what I do and I like how I do it.
I’ve always been passionate about working with the community in my life since childhood. In 2018, I started volunteering at TANZANIA YOUTH ALLIANCE {TAYOA} as a counselor. I was engaged with Youth regarding Sexual Reproductive Health, and HIV/AIDS. While in TAYOA, I thought of my own creation of self entrepreneurship to generate sources of income. I started cooking and selling bites, events planning, mistress of ceremonies, and an online motivational speaker through WhatsApp groups regarding behavioral modification.
Apart from income, these activities developed more confidence and understanding diversity of people from different perspectives.
In 2021, I got an opportunity to work with SkyPalm Travel and Tours Limited as a Personal Assistant to CEO and Human Resources Officer, I like my organizational environment because as the days are progressing am learning a lot from my fellow employees (team working), moreover how people both internally and externally love our country’s resources example, our national parks, and culture. My career goal is to have my own organization where I can provide multiple services as far as the community is concerned.
I thank Almighty God, my father Richard Klamseni Mushi, my mother Gladis Richard Mushi, my Managing Director Burak Buyuksarac and Mrs. Meysun Buyuksarac for their kindness, love, and support I am grateful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing comes easy, on frequent bases I had potential ideas, but I lacked funds to pursue the example of the project; on regular bases, adolescent young girls and women experience hardship in their lives, some cannot attend school due to lacking funds, sanitary pads, uniforms, domestic works, a long distance from home to school.
I thought about building schools and consultation centers to address the needs along with creating a friendly environment (social, physical, mental, and academic) to ensure her career goals are met. Example two; lack of resources to create awareness of child abuse, through advocacy, media, public speaking, home visits, school visits, feedback, and follow-ups. I cannot lose heart because.
I take some of my time to communicate with parents/guardians/relatives (one to one) about the consequences of child abuse, despite the fact that awareness is not effective.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am a Personal Assistant to CEO and Human Resources Officer.
I work with my team and I am a link between my fellow employees with the CEO {internally}, and my fellow employees with clients {externally}, through the team, working, training, and capacity building.
I am specializing and still growing and learning in Management to achieve targeted goals.
Am known as a way maker by being creative to assisting people in making meaningful choices in their life, example in my current job, we have created a room where every employee is free to speak on any issue example, work stress or depression and the problem will be solved, in TAYOA, I was the founder of social groups to assist one another in sickness/death/happiness.
What makes me proud is my kindness, energy, and courage. What set me apart from others is my self-management and self-discipline.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me is time.
With self-discipline, you can manage your time to do important and innovative things. I have time to do anything as far as it’s productive, I believe in this saying which states, “Time is a created thing. To say, “I don’t have time” is to say “I don’t want to.” — Lao Tzu.
