Hi Farrell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It started with a single home on Calhoun Square. My husband and I frequently strolled the streets of Downtown Savannah and came upon a home with gorgeous, historic bones but in need of some updates.
From the second I first moved to Savannah, I knew Downtown would be my home. I quickly realized my passion is real estate combined with providing ways for newcomers to experience the unique Downtown Savannah lifestyle. Together we began the renovation project and Savannah Stays – Square 1 was born.
In the years since we have acquired a collection of “Square” homes that offer a place to experience the unique urban lifestyle of the Landmark Historic District. Fast forward to 2022, the original Square 1 was joined by 12 more thoughtfully renovated spaces that offer modern amenities while keeping all the original character of the home in place.
Each home overlooks one of Savannah’s historic squares or parks and has been updated to include modern amenities while keeping the original architectural details in place.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If it were easy, everyone would do it! I am driven by the idea of the finished product of each historic home but getting there is not for the faint of heart.
Savannah construction can be slow and grueling – it’s a small town with very strict historic regulations (thankfully) to make sure these buildings maintain as much of the original character as possible.
It takes lots of time mixed with trial and error to find the right teams who can produce within the budget and are willing to stick to the design vision.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Savannah Stays is a destination for anything real estate related in Savannah. I fell in love with Savannah – the quality of life and the people that make up the city.
My ultimate goal is to help people find their own version of that experience. We have great pride and ownership of each Square home we offer – we have a classic design that combines convenience and elegance that comes with living in Historic Savannah.
Our homes range from fully furnished or unfurnished, seasonal stays or year-long all within walking distance of Savannah’s unique cuisines, museums, entertainment, and more.
What are your plans for the future?
We are currently working on our biggest project yet. It is 9,000 square ft on Savannah’s most prominent square. We would love to finish our outstanding projects and focus on more seasonal stays and offerings.
