Today we’d like to introduce you to Margaret Hicks.
Hi Margaret, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a child, my great-grandmother always gave me disposable cameras to take photos with at her house and on our little day trips together. She always had one in her purse to capture any moment that came up. I loved from an early age being able to capture a memory and keep it forever in a photo.
In high school, I took a yearbook class that was also an advanced photography class in the second half of the year. This is where my hobby turned into a passion. When I graduated high school, I tried out two different majors before eventually deciding to follow my love for photography. I attended North Georgia Technical College for their photography program and immediately fell in love with every aspect of it!
Spring of 2018, I moved back home to Savannah and started up my business. I have been incredibly blessed to have worked with so many talented photographers that through their mentorship and friendship I have seen major growth in my photography. Looking back, I am so glad I decided to pursue photography.
Capturing wedding days and other exciting moments truly brings me so much joy!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up in Savannah, I had a really strong client base to come back to after college.
I am grateful I had friends and family that trusted me to capture special moments for them. Like anything else, I definitely made some mistakes and have learned from them.
The wedding vendor community is a competitive one, but thankfully Savannah has some of the most welcoming fellow wedding vendors!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings and couples portraits. When my clients hire me to photograph their wedding, engagement, or any session, they know they are getting more than just a photographer.
They are getting someone who will do anything in their power to make their wedding day go smoothly. I am willing to go the extra mile to give my clients the best experience possible.
I become friends with 95% of my clients, so when the wedding day rolls around it is guaranteed I will be tearing up during your vows, first look, and first dance. I truly LOVE my couples. They are the ones who keep me going
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I love everything Disney! So naturally, my favorite childhood moment is one from Disney. I remember this one time we were there during their Christmas celebration and Stitch was dressed in a Santa hat.
He walked up to our double stroller and sat in it and told my dad to push him down the sidewalk. We have a photo of that moment and it’s truly one of my favorite photos.
