Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Fendley-Miller.
Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I discovered an interest in photography at the age of 17.
I’d take snapshots in Sepia or Black and White of daily life or long winding roads. But, it was nothing more than a hobby. I wanted to be a writer, not a photographer. But, as years pressed on I learned that Photography was just a new way of telling a story, almost in a tangible sort of way.
As I grew, I realized there were so many different paths you could go down, but whatever allowed me to tell a story is what I where I wanted to be. And, so after struggling for a decade, here I am. I am always ready to be at the height of emotion. In the thick of chaos where everything moves in slow motion and fast at the same time.
I love capturing a lyric on the lips of a vocalist pouring out their heart in song. Or, focusing on the twinkle in the eye of two newly engaged lovebirds. And, I love being on the front row, and behind the scenes at the same time, of two people promising forever to one another.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I have struggled creatively in so many ways.
And, I had allowed life to get in the way of the things I am passionate about. I had set aside my dreams to focus on the dreams of another. I had let depression and anxiety get in the way.
And, I let low self-esteem invade my mind to where I didn’t even want to try. It happens to the best of us, ya know. But, when I finally “let go and let God”, it all began to turn around.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a storyteller or “Photographer” in the business world. I want the photos I take to emanate the moment captured, not just show what happened. I’m in the business to make people be happy, making them thoughtful, to make them feel like their best selves.
Whether that is through Wedding Photography, Engagement Photography or Event Photography. I hope to give onlookers the yearning of wanting to be in that moment. And, to even feel as if that can be them. I especially love to capture a concert where people are “at the moment”.
And, you know what? I am going to be in the moment too. I will cry, laugh, sing and do anything I can to convey what we are experiencing together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I cannot give any credit to luck. But, I can give credit to God. When I decided to pursue photography as a career this go around, I prayed a prayer as I had never prayed before.
“God, I give this dream to you. You instilled this dream in me, you gave me the passion and I give that to you.” And, it’s been a different experience since I have done that.
