Hidden Gems: Meet Elena Dickey of Savannah Pedicab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Dickey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Being the oldest of four siblings, I can say that I’ve always been a leader. I like to give my best with everything I do, even if it’s a home-cooked dinner or signing a huge contract, I’ll always put my best skills to work. Before I landed in the Unites States I was managing at one of the biggest flower shops in Romania, while going to college at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest. I came to North Carolina being one of the hundreds of exchange summer students, and was working three jobs at some point in time. At one of my part time jobs I went from being a dishwasher, to line cook to kitchen manager over a couple of months, and that’s when I decided to give the “American dream” a chance. I’ve relocated to Savannah and started a Business Administration bachelor program at Savannah State University. After my second year and taking 7 classes every semester including summer sessions, I’ve done most of my coursework and decided to start looking for a challenging and exciting job, and that’s when I stepped into managing Savannah Pedicab. My husband was already working with them for the past couple of years and so all it needed was somebody to come and shake things up a bit(hahaha).

Savannah Pedicab was established in 1994 and has become a fixture in the Historic District, providing friendly, speedy, and eco-friendly transportation to locals and tourists alike. Savannah Pedicab is the oldest and the biggest pedicab company in Savannah. My opinion is that the company got to where it is today because we always focus on our clients and business partners as much as we focus on our business itself.

I would say that a business’ well-being is a reflection of its customer’s satisfaction and we are doing great!”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing worth pursuing has ever been easy or simple and so Savannah Pedicab is one of those examples.

The company started with one Pedicab and a dream and quickly fueled its way through Savannah’s entertainment district by being recognized as the best eco-friendly and fun transportation company.

Of course, it came along with thousands of hours of work but in the end, we can say we are leaving the dream that started all 28 years ago.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Savannah Pedicab “we specialize in endurance”, which is also our motto.

The plain and simple way to describe our business is that we are a tricycle tourism company. We pick you up from any location within the Historic District of Savannah and we take you to where you need to go. We also offer scenic rides so you can discover Savannah and its beauty. What sets us apart from others is punctuality, entertainment, and safety.

Our drivers go through several training periods, our pedicabs go through maintenance and inspection periods, and our customers, well, they just get their needs satisfied, whether it’s getting from point A to point B in time, safely, and also in style, or having fun for a couple of hours while seeing around the Historic District.

Savannah Pedicab is also the easiest way to book a taxi service, just one call away, no other information is needed other than a phone number and a name, and of course your location. Our pedicabs are equipped to take not just cash payments but also any debit or credit card as well as Venmo, Cashapp, or Square.

Unless you make a formal reservation, you pay your driver directly at the end of your ride, simple and fast.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success in my mind is always being able to effortlessly deliver more than what is expected.
