Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Keita.
Hi Adam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
How I got started has to be from the first coffee shop that I worked in many years ago.
Chocolate Bar was such a New York small business where the community wasn’t a trend but a must and I learned felt and dreamt from my time there until the moment it had to close its doors back in 2015.
I remember on the last day that I told the owner that one day I’ll open my own space one day where the community would be its backbone as well, and 6 years blew by, and the how still doesn’t make sense but my Daughter is here. I guess I could say how is never letting the dream deter after the many hard and still challenging times.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not!
I don’t come from much, so my pockets are built with dreams and hard work and at times it feels impossible but I’ve learned over the year that speaking up about your needs and desire will be the way to navigating through the financial hurdles.
This isn’t to say we live in a giving world but there are some kind people who will help only if they know you need help.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I own a Cafe and Wine Bar in Crown Height named Daughter.
What I specialize in is building spaces for community and navigating my own anxieties, but I’m known for making a decent cup of coffee. What I’m most proud of is the people around me, they are my inspiration, and when I say the people, I mean them all, the ones near and the ones far.
What sets me apart is still to be discovered but maybe we can check-in, in some years from now.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned that relationships, life, and myself are fragile and I’m learning that there’s no way to cope with this but learn to slow down and appreciate the complexities of being. I guess the main learning is being okay.
