Check Out Jayme Koch’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayme Koch.

Hi Jayme, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I remember always sitting around the kitchen table working on craft projects with my grandma + mom. My house was filled with handmade decor, especially during the holidays! Puffy paint, iron-ons, glitter, ribbon, macramé, sewing, stenciling… You name it, we tried it!

I have always tried new hobbies but never felt like I found my place in the crafting world until recently. In 2021, my boyfriend relocated to Greenville for his job, and I found myself traveling back and forth to Savannah. Traveling so often that I wanted to find a way to have a job that allowed me to be able to work around a traveling schedule. What better way than to start my own business.

With the encouragement of my sister (a wire wrap jeweler & creator), I turned to TikTok! That’s where I found this polymer clay obsession of mine! I instantly fell in love with the process and haven’t looked back. I hope you love my earrings as much as I love making them!

Maybe I’ll even inspire someone to spark their fire and start something new!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road but it’s been a road with winding curves, that’s for sure.

I’m still learning every day! Polymer clay is such a cool medium to work with but there’s a lot of trial and error when it comes to picking clay brands, color mixing, finding the right cutters, and really figuring out what works best for you and your brand in the process.

I have had MANY failed batches of earrings since I started but I only benefit from it in the long run because it helps me grow and learn as a polymer clay artist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create happy, handmade polymer clay earrings.

Statement earrings that are lightweight and eye-catching! Small batch & slowly made in my home studio. I enjoy working with fun bold colors (that’s usually my style) but also love the simplicity of solid colors & neutrals. I think my collections are filled with earrings for everyone.

Being a small business owner, mostly based online, I have to be a content creator and the coolest part about that is giving a behind-the-scenes look into exactly how my earrings are made! I love posting “process videos” on my Instagram reels.

I have recently added clay sun-catchers & car charms to the mix and I’m really excited about them and excited to brand out and have a collection of more than just earrings.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was kind of shy and definitely had a bratty side to me.

In my early years, we lived with my grandma and that’s where my love for crafting/making started. My mom made sure I was always involved in after-school programs or sports, which I appreciate.

I loved to dance & gymnastics! Mostly because I got to wear makeup & cool costumes during recitals.

In middle school, I tried out basketball & chorus. Basketball didn’t stick but I stayed in chorus all the way until I graduated from high school.
