Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Roberson.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have a background in interior design. I could not fulfill that career when both my parents were diagnosed with cancer. So I took over their landscaping company to take care of them. They died a year apart from each other at a young age. My mother knew how I loved decorating. I loved getting to know people and what was really important to them. My mom told me to full fill my dreams before she passed. I saw a sign that advertised a wedding expo and thought, that would be the perfect place for me. So I enter as a vendor and one best in show my first time. My photos were passed around among guests and other vendors. To my surprise, they made it to Laura Mackey at the Mackey House. She called me and ask to be with me.
From then on, I became their preferred vendor for brides. I helped decorate the home and grounds of Mackey House, then went on to decorate and design the Barn and Grainery. During that time I was published in magazines and did work with say yes to the dress and four weddings. Everything went so fast. My business was growing before my eyes. Covid came along and it hurt every wedding professional including me. During that slow period. I was kidnapped but managed to get away. I have not let this stop me. I am back to my weddings and booking. I hope one day to help people become more aware of what happens to them when their life is on the line. My experience has changed me, but for the better. I have a lot of life to live.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth. I have had to work hard to make a name for myself. The epidemic and being kidnapped were a struggle to get through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to get the stories. I am not just a wedding planner and florist. I am a designer. So I will create a wedding or event that is personalized to their story. I have not heard of another wedding designer that does this. My brides love it!
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
The personal struggles in my life have made me stronger. I keep pushing because my father always said Improvise, Adapt, and overcome. He was a marine. That is why my business name has Improvisions in it.
