Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Bunn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started out in the country with a beauty shop in my grandmother’s yard. She had a gift for making people feel beautiful. I watched her and my mom make people feel and look their best while sometimes not charging them a dime.
I honestly had no idea what it was I wanted to do in life as I was preparing to graduate high school… But my sister, valedictorian with a double major, was graduating from college that same year. She saw a gift that I didn’t really know I had. And it led me to where I am today.
A beauty school dropout who later went back to school to become a licensed esthetician.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say I’ve had a lot of struggles in my career. God has given me a lot of opportunities along the way to learn that there are lots of things that I enjoy doing, and I’ve made a career out of doing all of those things.
I currently own and operate a skincare and makeup studio, where women come for all kinds of facial treatments, and makeup lessons, as well as freelance and style hair and makeup for commercial, editorial, and advertising work.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what I am most proud of is following my dreams. Knowing that you really can make a career out of anything and I’m proof of that! I have a place where women come in for facials, chemical peels, waxing, and Microneedling. I have also been doing makeup for a very long time for print and editorial and honestly, my photographer friends have given me some of the best feedback of my life.
When they say you really know how to make people look like themselves, just a better version, I don’t think there’s a better compliment. But for a long time, I was unsure that doing something that felt so natural to me would be something that stood out to other people.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think one of the most fun trends that I’ve seen as of late, is online learning. Social media has really created a space for people to learn things from the comfort of their homes, and it creates a lot of value for what I do.
I think in the next 5 to 10 years we will see a lot more subscriptions and people enjoying learning that might not ever step foot in my studio. It’s given us a space to teach people that are halfway across the world and I do think that’s pretty amazing.
