Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Duran.
Hi Julie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re the Duran family from Savannah, GA! We are the owners of Refresh Nutrition, which opened at 916 East 72nd Street earlier this month. Josh has been a firefighter with the City of Savannah for 11 years. Julie is an RN who has a background working in oncology at Duke University Hospital and most recently worked at one of our local hospitals in Savannah. Sweet & spunky Emma is three years old. Our precious baby girl, Harbor, joined our family this past May!
Ourselves and our staff are the friendly faces serving up protein shakes, energizing teas and coffees, healthy smoothies, and more tasty treats to our community!
After the birth of Harbor, we knew that cultivating careers that allowed us to be together as a family as much as possible was our new goal. We also realized what a need there is for quick, nutrient-dense options to fuel our bodies in the Savannah area (actually, nothing has ever been more apparent as a hands-full mama to a newborn)! We know that our health and energy levels are so vital to our ability to live life to the fullest with our girls. With that, the dream of Refresh Nutrition was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have definitely faced some challenges, but we have had a lot of help from our friends, family, and staff to overcome them! For starters, we were supposed to get the keys to our space to begin our build-out on August 1st. We didn’t take possession of the unit until nearly two weeks later, which left us with a quick 2.5 weeks to completely transform the space and make it functional! Josh custom-built the bar himself and tackled so many projects to make my dreams of a boho industrial space a reality.
We also had a hiccup with Instagram where their algorithm thought we were a fake account and restricted our activity for almost a week just prior to our grand opening! We heavily rely on social media to get the word out and promote our business, so the ability to post captions and follow the accounts of community members is vital. We overcame by posting on our story and including text on our pictures and still had an amazing turnout. I’m happy to say we have continued to grow our social media following since.
We’ve been impressed with Refresh Nutrition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer protein meal replacement shakes, caffeinated teas, protein coffee, superfood teas and smoothies, and acai bowls. Everything we offer is quick, convenient, and healthy! We are proud to encourage and support a healthy lifestyle for those on the go.
We felt that most parts of Savannah are lacking options for quick and healthy drinks and snacks, and wanted to help fill that void. We are most proud to be a family-own and run business and to be active within our community!
