Conversations with Bridgette Bess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Bess.

Hi Bridgette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
About 5 years ago, I had a desire to share my story, experiences, and the many revelations I gained through my life. I came up with the idea to start my own blog and share my experiences and those learned from others. I wanted to use my gift of encouraging others in a way that would help them to be their best self and persevere through difficult times. From that thought, I birthed my blog, Bridgette Breaking Barriers. The name came effortlessly, fitting and powerful to me, as it was an affirmation of myself. I knew it was something God had placed inside me. To date, I am recognizing that Breaking Barriers isn’t just a one-time thing, but it is continuous. Bridgette Breaking Barriers encourages others on their life’s journey, acknowledging wins and learning from opportunities for growth. My blog has also grown to include a podcast, Tales from Barrier Breakers. I love to hear the stories of others, and sharing those stories with others is a way to learn from other experiences.

A couple of years ago, I launched Bridgette Breaking Barriers as a business and began selling t-shirts and journals to help support others as they continue to break barriers in their lives. This is only the beginning. I’m excited about my next!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all for me. Many of my obstacles have been internal obstacles; fear and second-guessing myself. The obstacles pushed me even more as I recognized the need to continue to push myself and break more barriers, even when it didn’t feel good. I’ve experienced death and other external obstacles that caused struggles in continuing to push through. But as I shared before, this made it more evident that Bridgette Breaking Barriers was necessary, not just for me, but for others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I guess I would consider myself ‘a creative’ as I write blogs and sell t-shirts and journals. I’m probably most proud of my shirts because I’ve had the vision for a while, and to see it executed was a wonderful feeling. When I see people with a Barrier Breaker shirt, it makes me smile. Ultimately, Bridgette Breaking Barriers is a movement. The shirts are an indication of the movement going forward. I intend to inspire others to break barriers in their life. It’s not just about me, but everyone becoming a Barrier Breaker.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Hmmm, something surprising that most people who know me may not know…my favorite holiday is Christmas. It makes me happy. The best part of the season is listening to Christmas music and watching all the cheesy Christmas movies on Lifetime and Hallmark.
