Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Matthews of Sparkling Queens Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Matthews.

Hi Taylor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in North Carolina and met my husband when I was in college at Appalachian State, and he was attending East Carolina. He was already in the Army, so that got us started on our Army journey. We moved to Virginia and then Hawaii where we had our son in 2014. We moved back to Virginia for a bit, and then we moved to Richmond Hill, GA in 2016 after my husband was stationed at Fort Stewart. With my son, we had a difficult journey with him that involved lots of doctors, testing, procedures, surgeries, and eventually, an autism diagnosis. This made our military journey difficult with a dad who was gone a lot and lots of change with moving every few years. We made a tough decision that active-duty military life was no longer what was best for our family. With that, we had to figure out financially what that meant. We prayed a lot of prayers and took a huge leap of faith. I started my first business in 2017, a third-party restaurant delivery service called FOOD Richmond Hill which helped solve my own problem of taking my son out to get takeout when my husband was gone. We started picking up success, and my husband was able to transition off of active duty and start focusing on his career in real estate. God was faithful throughout the entire process, and a year later, I approached our church about starting a preschool program there so that my son could have a program to attend where I felt comfortable. I was able to start that program in 2018, and my son was able to attend. In 2020, when the whole world shut down, I wasn’t sure what our future held as far as my job at the church or our other businesses. As everyone was worried about having their house cleaned, I decided to open Sparkling Queens in the summer of 2020. We did wind up reopening the preschool, and we were even able to open a kindergarten class for my own son to attend as well as others who were not ready to send their child to public school that year with all the uncertainty. I also started taking a larger role at our church and was appointed as the Administrative Director of New Life Church. Our cleaning business began to flourish immediately as people also saw the immediate need for a reliable home cleaning service. I was able to start working with amazing women and impacting so many lives through cleaning. Today, we have a staff of over 15 cleaners and 3 office staff. We have won awards for Best of Bryan, Best of Georgia, Best of the Coastal Empire, and various other accolades.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, especially with 2020 in the mix. We have struggled quite a bit with the basic struggles of learning how to own a new business, but also the hiring crisis and now an impending recession.

We’ve been impressed with Sparkling Queens Cleaning, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sparkling Queens is the area’s best cleaning company! You won’t find cleaning queens who bring a bigger smile or leave your home as sparkling clean as our crew. We are best known for our recurring services, where we are able to serve families on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis, but we also offer deep cleanings and move cleanings. We even clean for several apartment complexes and offices. What sets us apart is our bubbly personality, special touches, and commitment to consistency. We never cancel or have to reschedule your cleans for another day due to issues with staffing-we are fully staffed, so if your cleaner is on vacation, we are able to send another trained cleaning queen to complete your home cleaning. Brand-wise, we have new uniforms that will be unveiled in the next few weeks, and we love all things black and pink! We want to be seen as a company that makes you smile! We would love your readers to know that you may have hired a home cleaning service in the past, but you will find that our communication with our clients will exceed your expectations. From the initial phone call to the final walk-through, you will understand our process every step of the way, and if there is anything that you have any other questions about, we have a fully staffed office that is always waiting to take your call. We always show up, no matter what, and we never reschedule your cleaning day. We understand that your home is where you celebrate Christmas with your family, where you have family dinners, and where you share your most precious memories, so we bring only the most beautiful smiles, positive attitudes and leave your home sparkling clean.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I have many childhood memories of spending time at my grandparents’ house. One of my favorite memories is being able to go to their house bake cookies with my nana…and she didn’t make any type of cookies…she made triangle-shaped cookies like from a cookie pie. We would get to pick a movie from a VHS tape, so one of my favorites was the Apple Dumpling Gang, and we would cozy up by the fire and watch a movie with cookies before going to bed. I will always treasure those memories.
