Check Out Kathleen Burdette’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Burdette.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my cake business eight years ago. I’ve always loved to bake and make different things, now that’s what I’m paid to do! I started very simple with just buttercream cakes, then that turned into making fondant cakes, toppers, sugar art, flowers, and so much more. Baking was always just something that I did at home, and now it’s turned into a passion with adding all the decorating in. You get to be a part of someone’s big day, be it a birthday party, anniversary, wedding, you name it! Honey B’s is also an icing angel for Icing Smiles; once or twice a year we donate a cake to a sick child, and seeing them be so happy over something that I could contribute to is the best feeling in the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has had some learning curves that’s for sure. Turning someone away for not knowing how to make what they’ve asked for has been the hardest. So, when that happens, I usually self-train to figure out how to do it so I don’t have to say no next time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in all things cake! I’m known for going overboard sometimes with orders, such as taking an order and turning it into a 3D sculpted cake, gravity-defying cakes. If it’s an extraordinary cake, we want to help! I love to be challenged

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family is 1000% my biggest support, they are always behind me. My uncle who passed 2 years ago was always my biggest support and someone I looked up to and never wanted to disappoint, he always told me I could do whatever I put my mind to and to never ever give up. My baby sister and grandmother are second in line, always willing to help do whatever is needed, helping with baking, set ups, deliveries, everything! If it wasn’t for them, I’m not sure where Honey Bs would be.
