Conversations with Bridget Maddox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Maddox.

Hi Bridget, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I became a personal caregiver when I was trying to make ends meet for my children as a single mom. I had just moved to Savannah, and I didn’t know anyone. I met a quadriplegic that needed assistance in the evenings ten hours a week. I was like this is perfect! After some time with by, I became her full-time caregiver. I was there whenever she needed me and when she didn’t. I started traveling with her as well. Then I met a family who wanted their father to be able to visit family, but they weren’t able to care for him if they traveled. Yup, I agreed to be that person. Years went by, and I was still having that itch to help people, so I went back to what I used to do. I opened a Nanny and Personal Care business. I named it “In Bridget’s Hands.” It was the perfect name because I felt like I was given the gift of touching people’s lives with my desire to serve. Over the years, I’ve met many children and adults, traveled with families, and became friends with amazing people. Even though I’m in the medical field full-time, my little business is still up and going because I’m always ready to serve whoever needs my services.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. It hasn’t been smooth because I run into obstacles with persons not “hearing” of my business. Covid-19 of course, caused me to put things on hold for a while, but soon as the word was given, I was ready to get back at it. When it’s just you, it’s hard to get everything done and raise a family, but a way has always been made.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
At the moment, I am a full-time employee with American Oncology Network through Low Country Cancer Center. When I’m not working my normal business hours, I am traveling with my personal care client and networking to build my personal care and Nanny business back to where it was pre-Covid. I specialize in helping others. No matter what field of work I’m in or have been, it has always surrounded me being of help to someone else. I’m most proud of my children. They have stood beside me through everything, even helping with my little business, and now they are all business owners for themselves. I believe the one thing that sets me apart from any other business owner or an individual is that I don’t operate my business for the financial gain but for the satisfaction I get from knowing I did something for someone.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I currently own In Bridget’s Hands Services, LLC. We provide personal in-home care services for children and adults with disabilities and companion care for the elderly.
