Today we’d like to introduce you to Sedona Baldaccini.
Hi Sedona, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My senior year at SCAD, my best friend and I had a fun idea for a photoshoot and editorial, so we gathered up some of our friends to help, and we just went and did it. The photos and editorial got noticed by a local business, which then turned into my first freelance opportunity. I graduated from SCAD in the middle of covid, working on my first freelance project, and the projects kept flowing in.
Graduating in the middle of covid, where finding an “industry job” was nearly impossible, I really leaned into the jobs I was getting being a freelance designer, and I officially took the next step and started a business. My thought process was, “Well, I can do this for now, keep making money, and if the offers stop rolling in, and the industry starts hiring again, I’ll stop my business and go work in corporate.”
And I did have a couple slow months there, where I did start applying to corporate positions, but then my business started doing really well again. So, I had to take a beat and have a hard conversation with myself about what I really wanted. I realized that I do want my business to succeed, I do want to be successful on my own, and I do want to take the risk. So that is exactly what I did. Now, I’ve been running Baldaccini Studios full-time for 2 years now, and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In short, it has not been a smooth road. Starting a business is never an easy thing, and starting a business alone in the middle of a global pandemic isn’t any easier!
The mental obstacles you have to overcome when starting a business was the hardest for me. Learning how to own and run a business as you go is incredibly challenging, and fighting that negative inner dialogue that’s telling you you’re not good enough, smart enough, or talented enough to succeed is a whole other beast.
When you start a business, there will be challenges, there will be slow months, there is not a guarantee of steady income, and that’s incredibly stressful and challenging, too in its own way.
If starting a business was easy, and betting on yourself was easy, then everyone would do it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I help small businesses bring their vision to life with strategic branding, marketing, and web design. I focus on bringing a holistic, researched approach to both the visuals and messaging. My goal is to make businesses feel more confident than ever in marketing their product or service with high-end branding.
I am an individual designer, so I am able to have a deeper and more personal relationship with my clients to make their brand uniquely theirs! No big agency copy and paste.
I am known for having a collaborative design process. My clients are involved in every step of the way!
I am most proud of the relationships I have built with my clients. I am their number one fan and supporter, and I want them to be successful. I make sure I give my clients all the tools and resources they need to succeed!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Savannah. I love the close-knit community. I love the way the city appreciates art and creatives. I love Forsyth Park in the spring; I love the coffee shops, the history.
There is nothing I don’t like about Savannah!
