Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Whyte-Buck.
Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am a native of Ojai, CA, an idyllic faming community set back in the mountains just south of Santa Barbara’s world renown wine country. I inherited a love of cooking and baking from my grandparents, who showed me that farm-fresh ingredients and just the right amount of sweetness can always bring people together. I would watch Emeril Lagasse and Ming Tsai with my grandma and Pa and marvel at their outsized personalities and seemingly mystical knowledge of how to transform the gifts of the earth into delicious and beautiful dishes.
I was classically trained during the culinary renaissance that took place in turn-of-the-century Portland, OR. This foundation in culinary technique and creative expression was followed with several years cooking and eating through some of New York City’s most venerated kitchens.
A growing family followed by a global pandemic tumbled me this way and that for me to land in the wonderful Savannah, GA
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think the restaurant industry lends itself to anything less than a bumpy ride. I’ll spare y’all the gruesome details, but my career has walked hand in hand with daily trials, travails, and tragedies. It has left me with a wonderful wife, two amazing and talented children, a couple of sweet pooches, and three hilarious ducks. When I look back on my career to this point, I’m not sure how I survived, but I would do it all over again to be where I am today in Savannah.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bellwether Hospitality Group is a small but mighty bundle of food & beverage outlets, short-term vacation rentals, and a luxury bed and breakfast: the Bellwether House. We’re known for providing unforgettable experiences to our guests, whether that’s the perfect latte across from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at Mirabelle, a delicious meal at Folklore or an indulgent stay at The Bellwether House, or one of our numerous historic buildings.
We stand out from the crowd with our sheer quantity of experience among the staff and our unrivaled dedication to quality service.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I come off as a bit of a rough & tumble guy (the tattoos and the scowl don’t help), but I love to sing Cher karaoke and dance like no one’s watching.
