Life & Work with Cody Glenn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Glenn.

Hi Cody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Long Island, NY. Since I can remember, I have always been an artist. I treated art only as a pastime until I was twenty years old when I was accepted to begin my apprenticeship at Wyld Chyld Tattoo in Merrick, NY.

I chose to become a tattooer when I felt that I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of my academic studies in college. After finishing out my creative writing degree at a local community college, I took my portfolio around to some tattoo shops in the hopes of being accepted as an apprentice.

I began my apprenticeship in May 2019 and worked at Wyld Chyld Tattoo until 2022 before relocating to Savannah and beginning work at Good Fortune Tattoo Studio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part of my journey so far has been making it through my apprenticeship, as well as my early days of being a tattooer.

As an apprentice, I often spent 70 hours a week at the shop, getting no pay for my time and sacrificing any social life I had at the time; I knew I had to be totally committed to completing my apprenticeship and so whatever free time I had was spent drawing, painting, and studying tattoos.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do tattoos in a wide range of styles, but I most enjoy and excel at fine-line black and gray tattoos, as well as neo-traditional tattoos.

I also paint often and am most fond of realistic portraiture. I continue to practice this style in the hopes of achieving a more realistic aesthetic in my tattoos through practice on canvas and paper.

Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
In addition to getting tattooed by me, you can also support my artistic endeavors by buying my paintings and/or prints. I always have artwork for sale, whether to be hung on the wall or worn on your skin. I am also in the process of getting more into merchandising, so please follow my Instagram @codyglenntattoos for updates on new merchandise
