Today we’d like to introduce you to Quintin Lewis.
Quintin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have two personal passions in life. Law and Music. I grew up in Florence, SC. Around 8th grade, I became the musician for my home church after my grandfather passed away. Around the same time, I participated in a Mock Trial Competition for my Middle school. That was really the beginning of it all. Initially, I focused on making my way to law school, but I never really let go of the love of performing musically. I got my degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina and then went on to get my law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall. Throughout the time of obtaining my degrees, I continued to play at churches and added some weddings, talent shows, open mics, etc. I even did some recording with friends on their passion projects. Those songs are on all music platforms now. My artist name is Q. Lew.
During the pandemic, there was this thing in social media called the Rance Allen Challenge. Basically, a hashtag where people attempted to mimic the gospel singer’s unique style. I happened to do one singing “Something about the name Jesus” Between Facebook and YouTube, it got nearly 50K views. That prompted me to create a music social media page and do more self-promotion regarding performing. It’s been going up from there.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The real challenge is finding the time. The day job is demanding, and music is my twin passion if you will. Lol… I love having the ability to do both, so I have to work time in for keeping the social media pages updated.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think I’m most known for wedding singing. I’ve done several of my frat brother’s weddings (Omega Psi Phi). It’s what I like to do most. There is something special about a bride and groom inviting you into their space to create the soundtrack on a day that is likely one of the most memorable days of their life. I work with them in the days coming up to wedding for song selections, timing during the ceremony, and learn more about the couple and what the songs mean to them. The personal time allows me to tap into the couple’s personality and helps me put the appropriate emotion into the songs they choose… When The bride is coming down the aisle to a song they personally chose to mark the occasion, it’s essential to get it right. THE FIRST TIME! 😂. I pride myself in making sure the songs I sing create a lasting memory!
Any big plans?
I’m finally putting together an EP. My first one. I’ve sung or played on other people’s projects, but this one is going to be my first baby. I’m 1-2 songs in on what expect to be a 4-6 song project. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to do this, so I anticipate it taking a while. Late fall or winter release. I don’t have an official title yet… Maybe Welcome to Q Lew Muzic… ehh. I’ll keep toying with that, but it’s going to be fun, soulful, and full of love.
