Meet Caleb J. Herring of Crystal Clear Cleaning Crew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb J. Herring.

Hi Caleb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey! I’m Caleb.

I was born and raised in the small town of Marion, IN. I lost both of my parents at a very young age and was raised by my grandparents. I used to dream of being the President of the United States when I was a little kid, but starting in middle school, my aspirations switched to the entrepreneur path, desiring to start a company. My very first company started in the sixth grade when I was selling my middle school classmates CDs and charging them $20 to fill up their iPods with music. There were many steps in between now and then, but today I own a commercial cleaning company, Crystal Clear Cleaning Crew. We started the company in 2019, take care of the cleaning needs of many business clients in the Low-Country.

I also have a second business, Island Car Rental, that has a small fleet of premium vehicles that are rented out to tourists and locals alike. This venture is still very new, just starting in early 2023, but I have seen success in the early months & am excited to see where the journey takes me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth. Everything is good in my life has to come from struggle. In the early days, growing up in the small town of Marion, IN, we didn’t have much materially, but we did have family! I grew with three other brothers and a single mom, and we were close. I learned to never take such a thing for granted when my mother tragically died in the middle of my third-grade year. My father had passed just 4 years earlier, murdered in a crime that went unsolved for twenty years.

Life didn’t get any easier as I transitioned into adulthood. I learned what it was like to truly be broke, having a car with no means to put gas into it, & not being able to afford the basic necessities of life. The struggle of no money was only made worse by a chronic sickness that did and still does plague my body; Crohns Disease. I was diagnosed with the inflammatory bowel disease when I was 16, and have had to drastically adjust my diet and lifestyle accordingly. There is no cure, just management.

Not in spite of, but because of the obstacles and challenges that I have had to face, I am who I am today. There are certain lessons that you can only learn by going through the fire. Understand that these events & circumstances were undesirable and, at times, truly tragic, but also understand that they were things that I had no control over. You can only choose how to react to the occurrence, & I chose to grow. I encourage you to choose to grow through your adversity.

We’ve been impressed with Crystal Clear Cleaning Crew, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Myself, and my good friend Johnathan Decker, started Crystal Clear Cleaning Crew in 2019. Johnathan and I, both were working in the financial sector and were both unhappy in the positions we held. We weren’t so much disgruntled with the companies that we worked for, but more so with the work week itself, in having to go in Mon-Fri, 9-5, for something we did not accept as part as our purpose. After several mastermind sessions, late night chats in which we only spoke about what our next business move would be, we settled on the idea of starting our own commercial cleaning company. We recognized the small start-up costs and enormous earning potential of the business. That was 2019, and we just recently passed our 4-year anniversary of the company’s origin. We now serve around 3o business clients between two states. We are continuing to expand and are excited for what is to come.

I am also in the first few months of a new start-up, Island Car Rental, in which I am building out a company that offers a premium selection of cars for rent, servicing tourists and locals alike on in the Low-Country. S0 far, we have four vehicles, and look forward to expanding our fleet of cars, and will soon also offer boat rentals. Stay tuned for updates!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
One of the most important factors of my success has been the relationships that I’ve been able to build out. Having a mentor is so important. I have several mentors because there are so many different areas of life that it is important to succeed in; family, business, & marriage, just to name a few! While I believe it is smart to have such an array of positive influence around you, I think it’s also essential to find that one person who has exactly what you want in life and learn everything you can from them. I’ve learned that life is a repeating game, and while each person’s own story is unique to them, the path to success can often be learned and replicated from others’ stories.

You must control the input, all of the information that is flowing into your mind and body; & while it is important to do this by monitoring media consumption, it is just as essential to make you are constantly surrounded by people who lift you up; mentors and friends alike.
