Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Pidgeon.
Nadia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My formal education is in Interior Design and Architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After my graduate degree, I had the opportunity to live and work across the country and abroad as a designer, a professor, a writer, and even a sailor. I never thought I would return to this beautiful city after graduation, but I could not pass up the opportunity to work at Gulfstream Aerospace as a Principal Designer. Inspired by my architectural history classes, I have traveled the world to visit some of the most significant works of architecture created by humanity. Inspired by my graduate work focused on the human impact from our built environment, I am passionate about improving lives by making a measurable and thoughtful impact with a sensitivity to the person, place, and time with engagement of our built world.
I see the world as a designer, as a problem solver. I engage in my personal and professional life as such and, on any given week, I might teach a class to future designers, explain an architecturally significant property to a family in our community, answer questions about the remodel of a private jet, and show a Savannah neighbor some possible solutions for that challenging dining room or porch. It is who I am. I believe that design matters. We spend more than 95% of our lives inside – this is where we learn, love, raise our children, the places memories are made.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Design fields are always subjected to fluctuations in the market. Post-graduate school, unemployment in architecture and design was at 75% – that is crippling! But as a designer, I see this as just another problem to solve. These experiences led me to be diversified in my professional capacity. It is why I am just as comfortable teaching a class as I am producing design work or finding an appropriate property for a unique family.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Because my professional work is so diverse, I bring practical business knowledge to design projects and creative design ideas to real estate transactions. By understanding unique family needs, I can efficiently locate properties they wish to purchase, which is critical in our fast-moving market.
As a designer, I am honored that my team’s aircraft design for Gulfstream Aerospace won the Design et al Private Jet Design award for the G700 in 2022. This is the most prestigious international award in aviation design.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am so fortunate to live in this beautiful city with a rich architectural history and am always excited to engage with my community on design and architecture-related topics – design matters! In supporting local artists, craftspersons, and businesses, I am always looking to engage for the benefit of clients. www.nadiapidgeon.evrealestate.com
