Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenna Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Scott.

Jenna Scott

Hi Jenna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been dabbling with paint since high school. People who are close to me know that I am very passionate about a lot of things, but painting is probably the only thing that makes me happy (second to my husband, of course).

I love the lawlessness of art. A blank canvas holds no expectation or judgment which I find liberating. Life is hard. Art provides a welcomed escape from the mundane- a portal into a world that exists between my ears.

Through experimentation and persistence, I have really come into my own whimsical style. I am entirely self-taught, which is directly linked to the fact that I am both stubborn and a terrible listener.

To date, I have completed tons of mixed-media paintings and several murals.

If you had told me in 8th grade that I would have accomplished even one mural at this point in my life, I would most certainly have laughed.

I know that my style has plenty of room to develop, and I am excited to experience its evolution.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has not been a smooth road. The biggest obstacle in my way has always been myself.

I have really had to work hard at turning OFF caring about the opinions of others and turning ON my confidence.

I am magic. I can create things from nothing. We all can.

RuPaul taught me that everyone has an Inner Saboteur. The biggest struggle along the way has been identifying mine and telling it to mind its business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day I work in marketing for a local travel company, and on weekends, I am a painting instructor at a Paint and Sip franchise.

Any time in between those two things is dedicated to sleep, pets, and art.

I love to create. Painting is my passion, and murals are my current area of focus.

I am most proud of having some of my work in places that people get to enjoy.

My favorite mural to date is in a Boba shop in Pooler called King Tea (best boba around, for sure!). I did a wall inspired by “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Hokusai but put my own spin on it, making it a “Great Boba Wave” instead.

I think what sets me apart from others is that I see the world differently. I look around and think, “That needs a mural,” and then reach out to see if a mural is something that the person (business owner or otherwise) has considered.

I very much have a “the worst thing that they can say is no” mindset.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think that COVID brought about a bit of a renaissance in terms of art. People got creative in confinement, and art became something that spread joy in an otherwise bleak existence for a lot of folks.

I believe the future is bright for makers and creatives as the world continues to heal and grow.

AI art is a concern for a lot of artists in my industry, but I feel that nothing will ever truly replace human art.
