Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Gallo.
Hi Joe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About 15 years ago, I met my business partner Pat Portera and her family at a design showroom I was working at in Atlanta, GA. Pat hired me to design their personal home, and we became fast friends. Over the years, we worked on many projects together and became family. We celebrated holidays and special events together. When I decided to move to Savannah, Pat and her husband were also looking to move, and I convinced them to come to Savannah. We ended up buying homes across the street from each other. We quickly realized that Savannah was lacking in furniture and decor showrooms and saw an opportunity. We began a long search for the perfect location. We ended up finding the perfect spot, with the a building in need of a major rehab. We spent months making the building ours, and finally Broad Street Interiors opened in April. We have been welcomed by the community and have been busier than ever expected. We are so proud of what we accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future brings for us.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were many sleepless nights getting to where we are now. The renovation of a building in the historic district of Savannah is a feet in itself, mixed with a neglected old building, was more than either of us could have imagined. With building supplies still backordered from covid and the building boom, everything took twice as long to complete. Pat and her husband are co-owners of a very successful restaurant in Atlanta, and Pat was very knowledgeable about all the paperwork and permits needed to get the business going. We learn something new every day and roll with the punches. Its defiantly has been an adventure and something our families are very proud of.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been a designer for over 20 years. I started my career in designing retail stores. It soon blossomed into residential design. Broad Street Interiors is a full-service design and furniture showroom. We specialize in coastal modern design. We offer furniture, drapes, lighting, rugs, and art. We are different from other generic furniture stores. it’s a fun, bright, and not pretentious. We offer quality at affordable pricing with great design and service.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important thing we have learned is that each one of us has our strengths. Pat keeps it all organized and keeps things running smoothly, my husband, Tim Hall, is very involved in our marketing and Social Media content. I make most of the creative decisions. We all wear a million hats and can morph into whatever we need to be for that specific day and situation.
