Today we’d like to introduce you to Zain Jiwani.
Hi Zain, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For starters, I am an Atlanta native with immigrant parents. My mother and father are from Hong Kong and Bangladesh, respectively, but both of their ancestry goes back to India. I did not learn either of their native languages growing up, sadly.
I am the youngest of three boys by 6 years. The other two are only separated 18 months. So naturally, I was the little errand kid who was always given tasks and excited to do the things that no one else wanted to do…. which sometimes entailed holding the camcorder (90’s kid).
From there, I actually learned how to edit on my own by filming my own content, converting it from mini digitapes to full VHC-sized cassettes, then actually re-filming the television screen, recording only the portions of the tape I wanted in the edit, sometimes adding in some music or vocals.
Sounds so ancient, but that was only 20 years ago! Eventually, I went to film school, got my degree, learned how to edit the CORRECT way, and launched my career.
SCALES the web series was my first opportunity out of film school, and I went all in. I think that’s why Patrick and I are still so close today. SCALES was his baby; producing it was my big career challenge, and we just knocked it out of the park. Producing and editing that first season boosted my confidence into my capabilities today. Season 4 is wrapped on production, but still in post.
A few years ago, two colleagues and I started our own production company, Ripple Videos. We do everything from product demos to full-scale narrative content. We’re certainly gaining traction, and the three of us are committed to making this company thrive.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Ripple Videos?
I am a Video Producer. with a strong background in post-production. My two colleagues and I run “Ripple Videos,” where we focus on branding through storytelling with a heavy emphasis on product showcasing.
What sets us apart from others is that we’re a small team of three with amazing chemistry and knowledge of the industry. We don’t personalize our work like other creatives; we put our client’s shoes on and put work together that we know will benefit their company.
It’s slightly frustrating when I’m labeled as a “creative.” Sure, we’re creative people and we are experts in taking someone’s vision or story and building a creative narrative around it. At the end of the day, however, we are the “CREATORS.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Atlanta? I’m from here, so there’s a strong sense of pride and duty for me here. Lately, I feel like my ATL pride is going downhill while my sense of duty is going up.
I love the A, but man, it is a freaking mess. I don’t know what’s goin on, but the local news, ATL Scoop, all that stuff makes us look like a playground of violence to the rest of the world.
Short answer… BEST: The Braves… WORST: Traffic / The Falcons.
