Anthony Parrish

Anthony “Ant” Parrish, a respected musician with roots in Savannah, Georgia, has carved a notable niche in the music industry. His musical journey commenced in the local churches of Savannah before he expanded his reach to the bustling venues of Atlanta.

Hailing from a nurturing household in Savannah, Anthony is the eldest sibling in a family of three children. His passion for music was fostered from a tender age, with his family’s support playing a crucial role in his development. Anthony, who is also a father, son, and brother, regards his family as a foundational pillar of motivation in his musical pursuits.

Anthony’s exceptional abilities as a bass guitarist have led to collaborations with various artists within diverse musical genres. His repertoire includes work with pop and R&B icons such as Alicia Keys, T-Pain, Neyo, and Kelly Rowland and ventures into the rap scene with artists like Lil Baby. Anthony’s role as the bassist for J. Cole allows him to contribute a distinctive rhythmic and melodic accent to their compositions.

Anthony has not limited his musical contributions to contemporary genres alone; he has also made significant strides in the gospel music scene, partnering with esteemed artists like Donnie McClurkin and Deitrick Haddon. His broad collaborative history shows his versatility and ease of adaptation to various musical forms.

With a humble demeanor amidst his professional successes, Anthony remains a source of inspiration through his dedication to music and family values. His narrative underscores the significance of perseverance, innate talent, and a fervent passion for the musical arts. Anthony is channeling his experience and connections into “Savannah On Stage,” a philanthropic venture to enrich his community through workshops and performances featuring elite industry professionals.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Reaching proficiency and respect in the music industry has been quite an intense climb. In the beginning, I was starting from square one—without the necessary connections, without a deep understanding of musical terminology, theory, or even the full capabilities of my instrument. It was a journey of self-education and perseverance, learning each step of the way.

Navigating the industry also meant learning some hard truths, like realizing that not everyone who offers help has your best interests at heart. I’ve had my share of disappointments from broken promises. However, every challenge was a learning opportunity that has led to a very special project I’m currently working on: ‘Savannah On Stage.’ While still in the planning phase, the goal is to create a workshop that provides the resources and mentorship I didn’t have when I was coming up.

By leveraging the network I built while touring with major acts, I hope to bring those invaluable experiences to my hometown of Savannah, offering a stepping stone for the next generation of musicians.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In music, I’ve had the privilege of embracing multiple roles. My professional life has been diverse through touring as a musician, producing tracks, penning songs that have earned credits, and even delving into the technical side as a playback and audio engineer. I’m also at the helm as a musical director. While I’m often recognized for my role as a bassist performing with high-profile musicians, I take the most pride in my relentless drive to learn and my work ethic—qualities that have been instrumental in advancing my career.

Even amidst success, my key distinction is that I always position myself as a student first. My starting point was very different from many of my peers, who had various levels of privilege that I lacked. This disparity has shaped my perspective, ensuring I’m always eager to absorb more and stay hungry for knowledge.
