Today, we’d like to introduce you to Briana Oliver.
Hi Briana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hey Voyage, I am Bree, BreeJ, Bree Jordan the Biggest haha, I’m kidding. I am a humble 30-year-old mother and entrepreneur. I my journey on the east side of Savannah graduating from Savannah high school.
I was born in Savannah but I was raised in Charlotte NC returning to Savannah for high school. I always tell anybody who asks attending Savannah High was a pivotal point in my life creating the “Bree” I am today.
Savannah in graves in everything I needed to know about life, and the world and it most importantly taught me to go hard always and never give up. After high school, I attended SC State University on a full music scholarship playing the piccolo in the “Marching 101 Band”. I graduated in 2015 Degree of Science in Criminal Justice, eight months pregnant having my baby in July of that same year.
Becoming a single mother started a fire in me that reminds me every day I’m living for more so I have to do more. In 2016, I started my hair company La’Belle Hair Collection and it quite literally blowing up. La’Belle means the beautiful and I wanted to start not only a brand but a movement empowering and teaching women how to reach down and pull out their inner beauty with self-care and self-love starting with your hair.
After working a couple of minimum-wage jobs and networking with other entrepreneurs, I decided to take my friend Brittani on her offer to teach me how to do lashes. She absolutely blessed me with basically single-handedly starting my career. I immediately took lashing seriously and my clients from my hair company started supporting me and so did their friends and family.
In November a couple of years later, my cousin passed away and it made me different the grief from losing him Almost broke me but it was my client speaking life into me reminding me that he wouldn’t want me to give up. I channeled all that pain into my craft and it showed. I got better and better at what I was doing I was able to quit my job and focus on my lash career. I’ve been a full-time lash tech since the start of the pandemic.
Early last year, I decided I wanted more and that more came in the form of Elan Preparatory School of Esthetics wanted to advance and expand myself beyond just lashes I was excited about this journey. In October of 2023, I graduated from esthetics school with honors being voted by my classmates as; Most Unforgettable, Most Likely to Make Your Day, Most Opinionated, and Most Entertaining as you can see I am a goofball.
I try to live life with the motto that God will order my steps and no matter what room I’m in I will stand apart as the favor of God shines on me. I am currently operating in Savannah as an Esthetician offering lashes, waxes, facials, and body scrubs. I am excited about what God has in store for my life. I’m just here going where he leads me, using his blessing on my life to bless others.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has not been a smooth road at all. In September of 2016 after working for Upward Bound Programs Arts the school I graduated from SCSU I was one day suddenly laid off after working for the company for over a year. After that happened I worked many jobs at Citi Trends, and at the gas station, I would have to drive my daughter to Charleston SC, and leave her with my best friend’s mom for sometimes weeks and weekends just so that I could work.
After my roommate moved out, I couldn’t afford my life by myself, just losing my job. I had to move home after a couple of months dropping out of grad school with only 6 classes left. I believe there is a plan for my life so therefore I don’t question anything. No matter what comes up against me I keep going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about La’Belle Skin and Esthetics?
I am a Lash tech I’ve been lashing since 2019 in the city of Savannah I am known for my MEGA volume dark lash look. I recently graduated from Esthetician school and passed my licensure exam I’ve currently added facials waxes and body scrubs to my list of services. I am focused on you, helping you feel and look as beautiful as I know you are.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
My counselor in high school is the reason I went to college, and my high school principal Dr. D is the reason I started to take my attitude and behavior seriously realizing I needed to change in order to. Alter my path in life. My high school and college section leaders to teach. Me everything they did being hard on me and pushing me to my potential.
There were many teachers and peers in college that played roles in me becoming who I am today. Most importantly, my parents, my mom is a Black entrepreneur under my grandmother owns Savannah’s first black female foster care agency named Trinity J & D LLC. I was taught to be a BOSS never take no for an answer and pray first.
I was raised by a praying family & my awesome dad always had my back and has always been there for me even when I was doing my own thing. I am so blessed to have been graced by so many people who have played a role in my life especially my friends and family who are no longer here. Rest in Peace Deanna, Pace, and Kareem.
