Rising Stars: Meet Oshiner

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Oshiner.

Oshiner

Hi Oshiner, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We all worked together for at least a solid year before Alex (Guitar), & Trey (Bass), and I started exchanging riffs. We soon realized we were on the same wavelength and could easily create a project from our collaboration. Still far from a full band, we needed to fill the roles of drums and vocals, but after hearing live samples of Ethan’s chops in passing, we decided to recruit him as our drummer. Then, when we heard Evan’s shrieks and growls over his daily vacuuming, we invited him to jam with the 3 of us.

Afterward, we didn’t even bother asking Evan if he wanted to join the band; we told him he was in the band now. Those events unfolded in March of 2023, and since then, we’ve been meeting every week, writing, practicing, recording, playing shows, and performing foolish shenanigans. One important thing to note is that we were all good friends before the prospect of forming a band, making subsequent events seamlessly fall into place. Without the great relationships that we had prior to the band, I can guarantee there would be no Oshiner today because we all knew that it’s not enough to just like the same kind of music.

You must have great chemistry with your bandmates to create, endure, and, heaven forbid, enjoy what you’re doing! Not only has Oshiner been the catalyst for outstanding music, but it has also nourished sincere friendships that will last a lifetime. We are so proud of all that we have accomplished thus far and cannot wait to see what else we will go on to do!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every band has its challenges, but I’m lucky to say ours have been minor at most. We work very well and efficiently as a band, so much so that we have many song ideas we don’t know what to do with, which honestly isn’t a bad problem to have. We’ve got a lot of great material to work with, and right now, we’re just struggling to narrow down what songs we want on the album we’re working on.

If I had to pick the biggest challenge we’ve faced, it’s been finding a second guitarist. We would benefit from a second guitarist playing leads, giving us a fuller sound, especially during live performances. However, with the search for the right fit proving particularly difficult, we have decided to focus on completing the album before considering anyone to fill that role.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
We noticed a gap in the local music community that we thought Oshiner, as a band, could fill. Without getting too lost in the jargon, we would say that we fall into the subgenre of progressive metalcore or alternative metalcore, characterized by down-tuned, high-gain guitar riffs, up-tempo blast beats, breakdowns, and screaming vocals.

Although we may identify with those genres, we still believe that our music’s diversity and variation set us apart from other bands. We have a wide array of sounds that range from subdued stoner elements accompanied by clean, singing vocals to chaotic blast beats and crushing breakdowns that border on the inspirations of deathcore & death metal. However, the labels of genres mean little to us.

At the end of the day, our music is going to sound the way it sounds, regardless of what category we are placed in, and we are proud of what we’ve created. Our sound will be its most refined with the completion of our first album, which we hope to release later this year. I can confidently say that we are most proud of this album and what it will become.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
The best way to support us is by simply streaming our music, following our social media, coming to shows, buying merch, and telling your friends. Those go further than you could imagine, and we thank you in advance for your support.
