Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Armstrong.
Hi Jenna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I are the rare Florida Natives, lovers of the Ocean and tropical sandy beaches. Life gives you many chapters, and after 15 years in the corporate hustle and bustle, you know, lots of travel, hotel rooms, flights all around the country, living in a place many states away from the tranquility of the peaceful ocean, and false promises of dreams of the corporate medical world, we decided to take back control of our lives.
Having always loved the Savannah area, we felt having a home and growing a business together here was the ideal location. One cool night, as we were sitting and discussing our future plans over candlelight, it dawned on us… we love candles, so why don’t we make a better candle? We wanted something natural and safe for our beloved pup, Ellie. We had noticed that “corporate box store” candles were using toxic wax that was burning a black soot that was making a mess, wasn’t good for pets or humans, and had become weaker in scent, and we wanted something better.
We researched what the best products were, and the techniques on how to make a better candle, did a ton of product testing, and thought, “I think we can do this better.” Two years and thousands of sales later, we found out that other people had the same thought… they wanted something better, a candle that smells stronger and burns cleaner.
This is because we hand-pour all of our candles using natural coconut soy wax and the highest quality, non-toxic fragrance oils available, which is something the name-brand corporate companies just don’t care about. Today, we are super proud of our growth because it’s a validation of how many repeat customers also see how much pride we put into each hand-poured candle.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not a smooth process, lol. Initial product testing was expensive, time-consuming, and defeating at first. Website building, marketing/advertising, google, and social media were all annoying challenges that we had to navigate through.
How do you define success?
If you love what you do, then you never work another day in your life.
