Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Goodwin
Hi Cole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a household that always had music playing. My mom and dad were always playing music in the car and around the house, so I was exposed to it from the start. I remember going to watch my mom sing at local venues and bars when I was just a young boy, and I still love getting to hear her sing when I am home. In middle and high school, I would spend hours and hours in the computer or television watching old live performances of artists like Hank Williams Jr, Merle Haggard, Mark Chesnutt, and Waylon Jennings. I started playing guitar when I was a Freshman in high school, and quickly became obsessed with it. Once I got comfortable and confident enough to play out, I began sitting in and just playing guitar for my mom and the musicians she was gigging with. That went on until I got to college, and I began really focusing on writing my own songs and singing out in public. I began booking my own acoustic gigs around Pooler and Savannah, and that quickly spread to other places around Georgia. I formed my band in 2022, and we have been playing all over the Southeast since. We’ve played clubs, honky tonks, festivals, fairs, opened for big touring acts, and are continuing to grow the crowds and stages in the coming year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Compared to other stories I hear, I have been truly blessed. I have a very supportive family and a giant support system back home and even in Nashville of people that truly believe in me and want to help. However, there have been days where I have thought “It would be so easy to throw in the towel and find a normal job.” I constantly battle with social media and the stress that comes with those platforms. They have helped me a ton, but it is too easy to get wrapped up in the mix of comparing yourself to others. Other than that though, I have been blessed so far with a great support system and people that truly care.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a 23 year old singer-songwriter. I have been playing shows for almost four years now, and have been really touring the Southeast for the past year and a half. I have written with some of my songwriting heroes, played shows with some of my country music heroes, and played bucket list venues and shows. I am most proud of my attitude to stay true to myself and to do what I believe in, and I think that is also what sets me apart from others.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have countless childhood memories, and I could probably list about a hundred “favorite” moments of those, but there is one that I love to go back to in my mind. When I was just a few years old, I would always dress up as Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney and put on shows for my family in the living room. I had the toy guitar, cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and microphone, and I would stand there all night singing old country songs and doing my best impression of those artists I loved.
