Rising Stars: Meet Sydney Jones of Richmond hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Jones.

Sydney Jones

Hi Sydney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a born and raised upstate New York girly, who played sports my whole life. Soccer, basketball, and softball all year round. Acting and performing was something I did in the background when I was younger as I played sports. Towards the end of my junior year of high-school I was offered a scholarship to play softball at the division 2 level. This is where I attended college for two years until COVID hit. I was forced to go online and graduate early with my bachelors in communications. After graduating I took a year off school and was teaching in NY. This is where I decided communications wasn’t my desired path. Performing was what my heart wanted. So I applied to SCAD here is Savannah last year and have been loving life ever since. Since enrolling in SCAD I’ve had a lead role in the musical this year (Ronnette -little shop of horrors), done some improv shows at Front Porch Improv, and recently just found out I will be apart of the cast for the 2024-2025 acting and musical theatre showcase at SCAD. It honestly is such a blessing and I’m so excited to get to work! After this year I plan on applying to Yale’s performing arts program and get my masters in acting.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has never been smooth but it sure has been adventurous. I’ve always struggled with body issues and mental health whether I knew it or not. And at the time it really hindered how I looked at myself and my ability to pursue the things I wanted. It allowed me to let my health decline and get into an abusive relationship, and led me down a dark road. I truly hit rock bottom. But this also allowed me to come back so much stronger and confident in who I am, and what I provide as a woman.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a performer. An actress first and foremost, but I also sing and dance. I also loveeee comedy, it’s definitely my niche. I love doing improv as well, and I’m hoping I get brave enough to do some standup in the near future. I would say I’m known for my talent as a jack of all trades right now. I don’t have enough on my resume to be known for just one thing yet, but I would say my humor and my ability to make anyone feel comfortable is my best attribute at the moment.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about this city is its walk-ability. To me it feels like a more spread out and slower version of New York. People are always walking around, and hanging at the park. There’s always something new to do, and new food to try. I love that aspect. Unfortunately, this heat is something I do NOT enjoy at all lol. I enjoy summer time and summer time activities, but I don’t enjoy walking outside and immediately sweating out 3 pounds. The humidity is something else. My Virgo self loves the nice cool air of fall too much.
