Hi Michelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! Beettan is incredibly personal to me. It all started with a mission to create a safer, more effective tanning solution for my red-headed sister, who had faced some serious skin cancer scares. I wanted to find an alternative that would be gentler and more protective for her skin.

As a single mom balancing various responsibilities, I took on mastering spray tanning as a side hustle. My goal was to develop a product that was cleaner, less messy, and versatile enough to work well with all skin types. I wanted something that would enhance natural beauty without altering it, while also being practical and cost-effective for myself and others.

What began as a personal endeavor has evolved into a brand that simplifies the tanning process for everyone. Beettan now offers professional-quality results you can achieve at home—no stains, no orange hues, just a beautiful, natural tan.

Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw an opportunity to bring my spray tan partners into the fold, turning Beettan into a community effort. It’s about more than just a product; it’s about building a supportive network and celebrating a brand that values both natural beauty and the people behind it. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was definitely a journey with its share of challenges. I started out as a bartender, and transitioning into a business owner was a huge leap. As Beettan began to grow organically, I had to learn quickly on the fly.

One of the major hurdles was securing funding for expansion. Banks were hesitant to provide loans, so I took matters into my own hands by getting my real estate license to fund the business myself. For years, I ran Beettan out of my house, juggling the demands of a growing company while managing everything from home.

The growing pains were real, but they were also part of what made this journey so rewarding. Each challenge taught me something new and helped shape Beettan into what it is today. Despite the difficulties, seeing the brand flourish and knowing it’s making a positive impact makes it all worthwhile.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely. The COVID-19 crisis taught me some invaluable lessons about adaptability and community. During the shutdowns, I had to pivot quickly and shift our retail line to online sales. We also started allowing our spray tan partners to sell through our site, which turned out to be a fantastic move.

This approach not only helped us stay connected with our customers but also fostered a stronger sense of community. It allowed us to create more brand awareness and support our partners during a challenging time. Seeing the positive impact of this shift reinforced the importance of flexibility and collaboration. It’s been rewarding to turn a crisis into an opportunity to strengthen our brand and build a more engaged community.
