Daily Inspiration: Meet Shabreah Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shabreah Clark

ShaBreah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Savannah State back in the summer 2017 with a degree in Mass Communications concentrating in video . So by junior year, I was quite equipped with using the camera. Right before that summer, I took a photography class cause I figured it would be cool and each assignment we got just motivated me to do better than the last one. I didn’t think I would grasp so much into it. After graduation, like some I had a hard time finding a job in my field applying at news and radio stations so I started looking in other areas. My photography teacher always said I had a good eye with my photographs so I started applying for photography jobs. Luckily by fall of 2017 I became a school photographer at Upscale Photography. Over the years the job helped me become very diverse in demographics from primary school to college graduates. Adapting to the environment from taking 1600 kids pictures for ID school badges to capturing a homecomings and senior proms. I had to become a peoples person which was out of my comfort zone because Im private and always to myself. In this day and age high school senior pictures are SERIOUS!!!! you hear me lol. and it can be very overwhelming for the girls and just something for the guys to do to make their mom happy. Aside from posting on social media, they really didn’t know how to pose or what works for them. Happily to say I was able to fill that gap of awkwardness. I started communicating: walk them through each pose. Crack jokes for the girls who are nervous or to get at least a smirk from the guys who never smile, and be open to their ideas by not making it a one man show: if they had a visual of what they wanted I made sure to make it happen. The job became quite rewarding.I felt like I was becoming part of something bigger, im capturing history of someone else’s story to look back on when they’re older, something that their kids kids can look back on how they looked in their younger days, photos that I took will be on every graduation t shirt, social media post, invitations of their graduation moment walking across that stage. Starting out with the parents not trusting me to bringing the last baby of the bunch to take their pictures. It made me feel good… I wanted to do more. So branched out on my own and started doing other monumental photos like birthdays, family photoshoots weddings and anniversaries, engagements, any kind of pictures you needed I would do it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think it’s never a smooth road for photographers lol. There is always room for improvement If I didn’t have a x amount of customers within months I would think my work wasn’t good enough, Photoshop and I are never on the same page, and Im still adjusting to showcasing my work and myself on Social Media. over time I realized that no customers does not meant its over it just break for me to get better, The Photoshop software takes more patience and the work will show for itself in the long run. and For me to be the person behind the camera im still working on how to be more comfortable in front the camera.lol crazy right?

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer who specializes in capturing monumental moments of person’s life. I am known for taking maternity photos, birthday shoots, celebrating love like engagements and weddings, and capturing families, social events like baby showers and anniversaries. Im mostly proud of my growth and how diverse my portfolio is. I know they say photographers should focus in one area of photography but I have to disagree. Certain times of the year it gets slow but the bills don’t stop. Clients that witnessed your work ethic and built a relation with you will still trust you with other photography gigs simply because they trust my eye. Now as time goes on and you got experience in different fields you begin to identify your strong suits and what not for you. For example with me, I love sports photography in a controlled area when it’s just me and the athlete in their element, but I feel I fall short in taking photos during an actual game because Im not huge fan for sports

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My definition of a risk taking means you live life with no regrets and you are always betting on yourself. Risk taking means you are always evolving as an individual, and those are the best people I feel to seek life advice. Would I consider myself a risk taker….no but I am learning to not let fear get in my way of certain things I want to achieve. I think taking risk is needed at some point in your life even if you don’t do it all the time. Taking risk can help you adjust, keep you on your toes, and sharpen your skills
