Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Passiani
Hi Camila, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Camila Passiani, and my life has been a vibrant mosaic shaped by my travels across the globe. Born in a small town in São Paulo, Brazil called Águas da Prata, I was fortunate to call many places home, living in a multitude of countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and more recently, Asia. Growing up, my father dedicated over three decades to the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), and his work allowed me to experience the world in all its diversity.
From the lush landscapes of Ecuador to the marvellous beaches of the Dominican Republic, and from the rich culture of Haiti to the serene beauty of Cape Verde, each new country offered me a treasure of experiences. This nomadic lifestyle not only shaped my worldview but ignited my passion for travel, as I reveled in the opportunity to immerse myself in diverse cultures and connect with people from all walks of life.
Throughout my adventures, I discovered a fascination for the fashion and beauty industries. Each new destination introduced me to unique styles, ingredients, rituals, and beauty practices that enriched my understanding of self-care and aesthetics. My journey into the heart of the fashion and beauty industries began in 2017 when I enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). There, I pursued a double degree in Fashion Marketing, and the Business of Beauty and Fragrance. Guided by insightful and experienced professors, I delved deep into the intricacies of marketing research, identifying gaps in the market, developing innovative products, and crafting effective business strategies. The knowledge I gained was invaluable, equipping me with the tools to transform creative concepts into reality. This enriching experience not only offered me the privilege of meeting industry leaders but also provided the extraordinary opportunity to live in Lacoste, France, for three months. This adventure allowed me to fully immerse myself in the fashion and beauty culture of Paris, broadening my horizons and deepening my insights.
The Business of Beauty and Fragrance program at SCAD opened numerous doors for me as an international student. I received extraordinary mentorship, particularly from Meloney Moore, which propelled my career forward. A pivotal moment came during my senior year when I worked on a product development project for Tatcha, one of my favorite brands. To my amazement, my project garnered attention, leading the Senior Director of Product Development to reach out with an internship opportunity — an moment I still cherish. Under the guidance of exceptional mentors like Karyn Durkin, and Yvette Beauchamp, my journey at Tatcha blossomed. I transitioned from an intern to a Product Development Coordinator after graduation, where I continued to grow professionally and creatively. A defining moment during this period was the privilege of launching my first beauty product—the Tatcha Silk Serum. Being involved in every stage of its development, from concept and development to market introduction, remains a milestone that I will forever cherish with immense pride.
In 2024, I embraced a new opportunity at SCAD, where I now serve as a Creative Assistant for the School of Business Innovation. In this role, I help strategically coordinate and expand events, forge industry partnerships, and enhance program’s visibility and presence across social media. It’s been an exhilarating journey, allowing me to connect with industry leaders and collaborate with talented individuals to bring innovative ideas to life. Each step along the way has been a testament to my passion for exploring different career paths, and I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life on this planet can undoubtedly present its challenges, but I firmly believe that every experience unfolds for a reason. I’ve come to realize that when you’re truly passionate about something, you will inevitably face obstacles along the way. These challenges, while often daunting, serve as invaluable opportunities for growth. They encourage you to reflect, to improve, and to evolve into your most authentic self. Embracing this journey has taught me that it’s through overcoming difficulties that we truly discover our strength and potential.
Throughout my life, I struggled with communication—particularly in articulating my thoughts and establishing boundaries. These hurdles often made it difficult for me to connect with others and express my true feelings. However, my journey took a transformative turn when I discovered holistic therapy. This path not only helped me dismantle the barriers I faced but also empowered me to reclaim my voice and navigate life with newfound confidence.
Embracing holistic practices enabled me to explore my inner world and foster a deeper understanding of myself. It allowed me to confront the challenges head-on, transforming my struggles into stepping stones for personal evolution. I’ve learned that true growth often arises from adversity, and with each breakthrough, I’ve moved closer to becoming the person I am meant to be.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently immersed in my role as a Creative Production Assistant for SCAD’s De Sole School of Business Innovation, where I have the opportunity to cultivate a wide range of skills across multiple areas. In this dynamic position, I engage in strategy development, event planning, and logistical coordination, while also contributing to the development of creative assets. My responsibilities extend to managing our social media presence, ensuring that our outreach is as impactful as our events.
Collaboration is at the heart of my work—a lesson I deeply embraced during my time as a SCAD student. I partner closely with diverse teams to orchestrate events and streamline logistics. I also take pride in designing creative materials, including presentations, invitations, display boards, and personalized decorations that enhance our initiatives and enrich the experience for our students. This role has not only allowed me to harness my creative abilities but has also provided me with invaluable insights into the intersection of innovation and business.
I believe that what truly distinguishes me is my meticulous attention to detail and my relentless pursuit of excellence in everything I undertake. I approach even the smallest tasks with passion and dedication, fully aware that every effort counts. After all, you never know who might be watching, and sometimes, a small positive action can lead to significant opportunities for growth and knowledge.
