Inspiring Conversations with Sam Pemberton of The Johnson Group brokered by EXP LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Pemberton

Hi Sam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a 1st time home-buyer, when my family and I got stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, I was nervous about hiring a real estate agent I could trust. So I got a little help from my dad, a 20-year Army veteran, and agent himself, in picking our agent. I could immediately see the value in a trusting partnership with a motivated agent who is focused on client care. My goal is to 100% replicate that feeling for my clients.

For over 21 years I served as an active-duty helicopter pilot in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard. This was where I learned that trust is earned. When looking for an agent to partner with in the process of buying or selling a home, you want someone you can trust. I hope to earn my client’s trust by walking them through the process with the heart of a teacher, and not a salesperson. Between my active duty service and growing up a military brat, I have personally conducted 20+ PCS moves and understand what it takes to help alleviate the stress that comes with a move.

The military brought my wife, three daughters, and me to Richmond Hill, Georgia in 2016. After moving here for the excellent schools, we fell in love with the Savannah area and decided to make it our “forever” home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like my journey from active duty military service to entrepreneurship was a steep learning curve. There are technical and tactical aspects of the real estate industry that can be flat-out daunting. In fact, the first brokerage I was hired with technically “changed their mind” on my provisional hire on account of the climbing interest rates and drastic reduction in buyers entering the market. This was August 2022, when rates sharply increased for the first time in several years.

The interest rates created a shift in today’s real estate market that affected our entire industry. So the timing of me getting my license and starting my real estate career was not ideal. However, I did not let it deter me. I got to work immediately by finding another brokerage, team and mentor. With hard work, long nights, and the help of Ashley Johnson and the Johnson Group in Richmond Hill, I was able to complete 28 transactions in my first year of business, what some would consider a “down” market.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Johnson Group brokered by EXP LLC?
As a veteran myself, I personally connect with active duty military families moving to and from the area. It’s easy to talk the same language of PCSing (Permanent Change of Station) when you have done it personally over 20 times in two different services. I make the experience of buying or selling a home personal, not transactional. It’s typically the largest purchase that our clients will make in their life-time and I take that responsibility seriously.

When it comes to your professional real estate partnership, there are a TON of people in this industry that will want to take your business and treat it like a transaction. At the Johnson Group, we love the RELATIONSHIP aspect of our business. That is 100% why we are so active in our community through multiple avenues to give-back to those that are in need. We do this through multiple aspects like actively supporting Combatboots 2 Boardroom, #HonorMark Foundation and are currently in the process of establishing our own non-profit to support our local community.

Not only will we support you in the purchase and sale of your property, but when it’s complete, we will strive to maintain a presence in your life and ensure you know you can call, text or email us whenever the need should arise.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentorship is a difference-maker. Attempting to accomplish ANYTHING without it makes whatever task you are trying to accomplish, extremely harder. It’s important early on in your career, especially when transitioning out of the military, to place trust in a mentorship process. It amplifies confidence, feedback, skills, accountability, and guidance.

Mentorship provides an invaluable combination of knowledge and support that helps entrepreneurs and professionals navigate the complexities of business. It accelerates learning, reduces risks, and increases the chances of achieving long-term success.
