Check Out Charlotte Pickard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Pickard

Hi Charlotte, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Charlotte and I’m a British-American visual development artist based in Virginia. I’m a senior animation major at Savannah College of Art and Design. Overall, my artistic journey really blossomed during my move overseas from England to America. My family moved around a lot due to my dad’s job, and during times of uncertainty and great change, I always turned to art as an escape. When things got too stressful in my real life, I found comfort in escaping into worlds of my own. Eventually, what started as a hobby, turned into something more. In high school, I started creating stories and characters, which blossomed into the desire to create my own graphic novels. I’m looking to enter into the publishing industry by the time I graduate, and to one day become a recognized author. I am currently co-producing on my senior capstone, and will graduate in spring 2025. In my free time, I dedicate myself to personal projects. I love traveling and working abroad! Whenever I have down time, you can usually find me reading a book, going to the gym, or spending time with friends!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like everything, it came with some struggles! Growing up, I never felt like I “fit” in anywhere. Due to growing up with a different culture, I had to adjust to an environment that was unfamiliar to me. Going into high school, I was very introverted and shy, and therefore, I felt I never had the opportunity to fully express my true self until coming to SCAD. My first year was an adjustment period for sure, however as a senior, I am confident in the person I have become. I can say confidently that am surrounded by people who have pushed me to be the best version of myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in visual development, but specifically character concept design! I’m known for character and environment illustration. I try to have a range in my work, and I’ve currently been introducing 3D assets into my workflow. I am currently most proud of how I have transitioned into leadership positions at SCAD. If you told me during my first year that I am a producer on a senior capstone, I would be shocked, yet proud. Overall, I can say that I not only take pride in how I have grown as an artist, but also as a person.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have fallen in love with Savannah since living here! I love how walkable it is, and I especially appreciate how dedicated the city is to maintaining the history. My favorite part of Savannah is hands down Forsyth park. I love how lively it is, and how much it brings the community together. I’ve spent many of my Saturdays wandering the farmer’s market with friends. Nothing beats sitting out in the park with my people- it’s my happy place.
