Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa, Lane, And Mark McRae
Hi Lisa, Lane, and Mark, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lisa and Lane are a mother/daughter team. Lisa started her retail career working in high school in a clothing boutique. She went on to major in Marketing at Clemson University and continued in retail for many years. Lane, a recent College of Charleston graduate, interned in a small retail shop in Charleston and gained further retail experience in Savannah. She will bring a youthful and fresh approach to the business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a smooth road for us. We bought a lot of inventory and furnishings from Salacia Salts and with guidance from Cari Phelps, the transition has been fairly smooth. Each of us brings different skill sets to the mix. Mark McRae, Lisa’s husband and Lane’s dad, takes care of the accounting for the business. Lane specializes in social media, IT, and merchandising while Lisa enjoys customer service and merchandising.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Indigo Cottage?
Lisa’s and Lane’s family roots are in South Carolina dating back to colonial days. Their ancestors were some of the first rice and indigo planters as early as 1697. The name reflects the history as well as the desire to create a cottage feel selling products reflecting the Lowcountry lifestyle. We prefer to offer items from local artists when possible.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We feel that hospitality is extremely important to our business. Our shop has a cozy and homey feel and we want people to feel welcome and appreciated. The way customers are treated can leave a lasting impression on tourists and we want them to enjoy their Savannah experience, so they will return. We appreciate local customers and want them to know that they can count on The Indigo Cottage for unique gifts, apparel, and accessories.
