Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Dum III
Hi Ben, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in rural central Pennsylvania and played high school baseball. I received a scholarship to play D1 baseball at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). I went undrafted out of VCU and signed with the Southern Illinois Miners in 2019. I pitched great there and signed with the Minnesota Twins. I played for the Twins in 2019 and 2020. Early 2021 I signed a 2 year deal with the Atlanta Braves. I pitched well through the 2 years and reached High A. I signed another 1 year contract with the Braves for 2023, I got hurt in spring training that year and got released in July. After that I signed with the York Revolution in the Atlantic League. 2024 I was introduced to Banana Ball where I moved to Savannah and played for The Visitors for the summer. I had a great experience there and hope to be back for 2025.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a bumpy, non linear road.
My freshman year at VCU, I did not play well. I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be there. I went to summer ball after that season and rediscovered who I was as a pitcher and had a great college career from that point on.
2023 I suffered some injuries that took me off the field and left my career in question. I had every reason to give up at that point but I knew I had more in the tank and stuck with it and it has brought me to a great point in my professional career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional baseball player. I throw a ball for a living and in my field I am known for my unique pitching delivery and ability to throw strikes and get outs. Off the field I spend time coaching youth and college players at FullReps Training Center in Camp Hill PA. I am most proud of my persistence throughout my career and how I try to treat everyone I encounter with love and respect.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My Mom Heather and my Dad Ben Jr. have supported me every step of the way. They have encouraged to think boldly and chase my dreams. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
My wife Courtney. I have brought her along through the ups and downs of my career and she has been loving and supportive every step of the way.
The rest of my family and grandparents especially. They have been very supportive and invested in my career and have supported my dreams.
Coach Sanno, my high school coach facilitated a love for the game for me and taught me how to work hard and be accountable for every aspect of my life.
Many coaches along the way have guided me in the right direction.
Scott Swanson, the owner of FullReps Training Center has coached me and helped guide me through my professional career.
