Meet Chelsea of Mane Focus Hair Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea.

Hi Chelsea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing hair on June 26, 2012. I attended my vocational school in Saratoga Springs, NY. I had such an amazing teacher Mr.Vassi. He was such a detailed patient teacher that taught me so much and really set me up for success. Once I graduated I worked at a Fantastic Sam’s that was near a Navy base so I at that point learned a lot of men’s haircutting. I enjoy doing men’s cutting but I knew I wanted to branch out and learn more. I then moved over to a different small home town salon where I started taking color classes as well as technique classes. I then moved to Savannah, GA in October of 2018 where I worked in a commission based salon until 2021 when I then decided to open my own salon in my home while I was pregnant with my son. I loved being able to work from home and have that one on one time with my clients and really be able to focus on them. My son then was around 2 years old and I was then pregnant with my daughter and at that time I knew it was time to pivot and I decided to booth rent. I booth rented for about a year and at the end of the day I just had such a vision for how I felt a salon should be ran. It was December 2024 the opportunity presented itself for us to buy a commercial property. We ended up closing April 22,2025 and my husband and I now own Mane Focus Hair Salon. Our salon offers Booth rent opportunities as well as commission. We also have an education space that allows us to help shape our stylist to always keep up with the latest trends!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. There has been a lot of ups and downs but honestly that is when you learn to pivot and remember your WHY!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mane Focus Hair Salon. We are a hybrid salon which means we offer booth rent options as well as commission. My vision for that is to be able to help grow new stylist until they are ready to be able to open their own business with booth rent. I feel like so many times commission stylist are ready to branch out and do their own thing but have to move where they are at. I want a stylist to feel like that can truly grow with Mane Focus Hair Salon. We also have a center where we bring in top tier educators to teach classes. It also allows stylist to hold their own classes to grow if teaching is their passion. We also have two amazing estheticians in our space that offer full body waxing, facials lashes as well as a very luxury high end head spa service

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is such a HUGE part of growing. The biggest advice I would have to give is network get out there and just meet people and connect with small businesses. That is truly what helped me to build the community I have today
